Yeathat part upset me, too. I was NOT suprised, though because he seemed like the type of person that would do something like that. I think he was just REALLY drunk.

I thought he didn't punch the baby, but just put it in the bassinet and pushed the bassinet into the wall
I've read, though, that the real Paul Verlaine actually threw the baby meaning to throw it into the bassinett.and missed :(.
