I just saw that. I find it sad. They said "we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide." I have seen a lot of hating & bullying on the boards but why not work at ending that instead of completely removing the boards. There are many users who can follow rules.

I totally agree with youwhy can't people just adhere to the "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" policy? If they could just start a policy of disallowing comments that have nothing to do with the thread subject, it would eliminate a lot of the vicious comments that have become too common.

There is a lot people complaining on IMDB's Facebook page. There is also a petition.

I will miss it very much. I've enjoyed getting other people's thoughts and interpretations and having discussions. I haven't experienced any thing bad, only one or two but wasn't aimed at me. Other times I choose to ignore if the thread was going that way.
I shall miss people on this post, it's been very entertaining. Good luck to you and maybe we'll pop up somewhere else and continue with lively debates.

I think Reddit is similar, with messages boards on films and series.
There's actually a petition people are signing to keep the boards up.

This is such a bummer! However, the reason is not what everyone thinksit's not because of any negative interactions on the board, but simply because the board is being eclipsed, and therefore replaced by social media.

That is absolutely stupid! Nobody cares about their Facebook or Twitter page.

                      Unfortunately, IMDb states otherwise:
Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb's social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb's editors and one another. IMDb's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/imdb) and official Twitter account (https://twitter.com/imdb) have an audience of more than 10 million engaged fans. IMDb also maintains official accounts on Snapchat (https://www.snapchat.com/add/imdblive), Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/imdbofficial/), YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/imdb), and Tumblr (http://imdb.tumblr.com/).

I hardly ever see anyone post on their Facebook page.
