It was also recorded by Edwin Starr, Art Garfunkle and The Jackson Five: all which are available at iTunes. The versions by Edwin Starr and Shades of Blue are the best versions. It's been awhile since I've seen the movie but I think the version they play might be the one by Edwin Starr.
