Why such a low rating?

To me, thats just a number from another reviewer.
Dragonheart will always be a favorite of mine, no matter who says what.
Reckon yous can open the post on the Dragonheart and Medal of Honor music score?
Yes I posted it, but I really want opinions. Thanks -

IMDB is full of trolls and disillusioned college kids who took a film course and consider themselves the next Scorcese.
Lots of movies get scores that they absolutely don't deserve, in both directions. Whether it's dead-fish movies where nothing happens and no characters are interesting/believable getting near-8 ratings from the "you just didn't UNDERSTAND it, I'm smarter than you so I liked it" crowd, absolutely mindless explosion chains getting near-8s from the "I've had ten concussions in the last year but IT TOTALLY DIDN'T AFFECT ME" crowd, or any of a litany of other reasons a movie scores well or poorly here, you simply can't trust any rating on this site.
Well, other than movies that are hovering around 9 or 2 with about a thousand or so votes; in those cases it's pretty much a common consensus that the movie was a masterpiece or a disaster.
If it's anywhere from 4 to 8, just watch it yourself and see if you like it, don't let people with an internet axe to grind keep you from seeing something.
Think of it like the Oscars - a great deal of it is just a popularity contest, with most of the rest coming from settling a score with an actor or idea you loathe.
Dragonheart's a fine movie. It's no classic of modern cinema, but it has solid characters, good effects (in 1996 they were pretty amazing and they've actually held up rather well, helped by the live actors nailing their cues pretty well when interacting with Draco), and pretty good actors holding down the fort. It's an entertaining fairy tale; you could do much worse (which Hollywood has been doing its very best to prove with nine of ten releases in the past decade). -

6.4 is about where I'd put it. Nostalgia can influence the mind pretty heavily, making you want to give something that deserves a 6.4 an 8 or higher because of the fond memories you have of watching it as a child or teen or whatever.
In reality, the movie's pretty bland and simplistic. The only qualities that hold up at all are the one good piece of music (To The Stars) and the story. Even then, though, there's not much depth or much of anything memorable except the dragon itself and the ending scene, which was forced since Draco really didn't have to die (Einon's "evil"? Ya, okay.).
Unfortunately, this isn't the Internet Nostalgia Database, it's the MOVIE data base, and as a movie, it's not really deserving of much more than a 6.5. It's a good Sunday movie for when you're lazy on the couch and just want to waste an hour and a half. It's not something I would tell anyone to pay money for and expect to be thoroughly entertained unless of course that person is a kid or teen then maybe you'd love it. But for an adult who's seen much better fantasy, it simply can't hold up. The director is incompetent. -

I would have expected a 7 out of this at least. It's a good film. It IS a classic film, where medieval stories and dragons are concerned. Mostly due to its memorable, heartfelt ending.
Unfortunately, not all of the performances are great. Dina Meyer, Lee Oakes which take up a decent portion of screentime pull the movie down. Even David Thewlis isn't the best at times, but I think this comes mostly from his mustache twirling, over the top villainous character. Also, as others have mentioned elsewhere, I do wish we learned more about the dragons, Avalon and what not, that was lacking.
Other than that, a good story, well developed characters and bonds especially between Quaid and Connery. Also, good action sequences and decent special effects.
The sequel is a bad film. It shouldn't even be a film.
