- What was with the weird, pointless cut away from the conversation between Max and the wife back to the car where the other two cops leave? I don't understand busting up the final scene like that.
- It was kind of refreshing to see the wife NOT forgive the cheating husband.
It seems like every movie in which there is infidelity (on the side of either party) they have them forgive the culprit almost immediately.

The wife won't be able to move on without forgiving him. She doesn't need to take him back, but forgiveness will help her deal with the pain and loss of the relationship. I would also want to know why it happened. Infidelity is a symptom of a failure. Maybe she never knew who she married. Also, we are human and make mistakes. Whatever you deem is the deal breaker in a relationship, what if you did it? Would you be strong enough to accept their decision? I hope so, but I think we lose when we walk away hurt or damaged. We win when we walk away assured that we did our best to help all parties involved.
Another question about the relationship is did she approve of his participation in the "hat squad". If she did it seems hypocritical if she doesn't take him back. It's okay to mistreat others for the greater good, but not her. That squad didn't respect human rights. Max was an enforcer like the criminals he hurt/killed. If she didn't, he truly broke her heart with who he was. She didn't seem the type to approve of his treatment of people.
