    not to mention captains!
Officers are usually calm, calculating and pragmatic soldiers. Leaders who see the big picture. As opposed to how Frye and Darrow were portrayed as impulsive, volotile and emotional.
I get that the movie needed them to create controversy, but atleast make it realistic. No way those two douchebags would have made rank that high. They'd be seargents at best.

Hummel never should have explored the idea of adding troops beyond his loyal men. You have to know when they show up as added support that they're going to be the wild cards that undo the scheme.

They weren't all that impulsive until the time came to start firing off the rockets. They weren't in on Hummel's bluff. By that point, they had gone too far, and it was time to blow some beep up and make some money. They were mercenaries.

No, it's pretty clear when they have the SEALs pinned down in the shower room that they are ready to kill before the order has been given and when things escalate, they seem to take particular joy in it.

I have personally seen two infantry LtCols bump chests in the battalion office and it have to get broke up by a 1stSgt. Those twos characters weren't written the best, but they for damn sure could've been commissioned officers in the Corps

As a commissioned officer, Captain is not a high rank. Captain is a junior grade and they are pretty young from the their mid to late 20's.
I've served with a couple of hothead Captains that were just trying to impress the battalion commander, so I've seen similar behavior.
Remember, they weren't Marines anymore - They were mercs, so all discipline is out the window.
