Stu then Randy. They were STUPID to kill Stu in the first film. That Shaggy from Scooby Doo hippy quality he brings should have been a cornerstone of the entire series with the villain more or less saying 'and I would have got away with it and all if it hadn't have been for you pesky kids!' Instead, they bring back nearly none of the great comedy of the 1st in favour of school play clever clever metafiction. It's OK but a spark has already gone. Sidney is a dull character to hang a film around - they need great , younger, goofy talent. Scream 3 and 4 went further in to metafiction - we get it- and Gale and Dewy should never be more than bit part players. Give us far cleverer death scenes and comic talent instead of bone dry exposition.

If we're talking favourite character throughout the whole series of movies, then I think mine is Dewey. I like his back and forth with Gale across the 4 films and when I look back I was most happiest to see him still alive at the end of scream 2. I like the theme that plays when he comes into the movies and I think David Arquette did a really good job in the role.
I also really liked Stu, thought he was hilarious in the first film. Sidney of course. And a special shout out to Mrs Loomis. I know she barely counts, but I enjoyed it when Laurie Metcalf was on screen in the second movie.

I'd have to go with Sidney Prescott all the way, always has been my favorite since early childhood after first watching this film. She's a very likable person to root for, and she's someone you do not want to beep with, or she'll give you one hell of a right hook across the face.
In all honesty, Sidney is someone I would happily sit down and listen to all day and not grow bored by what she had to say, if I had an opportunity. I sometimes wish I could give her a hug and tell her "It's gonna be okay."
And a close second has to be Dewey Riley, such a friendly dude I'd enjoy hanging out with. And he was always supportive of Sidney throughout, so he wins in my books. In all honesty, I'd be okay with Dewey having to arrest me (and maybe even taser me) if he caught me for DUI.
I'd also choose Randy Meeks, cause I'm sorta like him, a
movie buff
, always discussing the ins and outs of a movie. He's the kind-of movie buff I would enjoy hanging out with. He convinced me to watch
Prom Night
.
I wish he'd survived
Scream 2
, cause he's such a likable person.
