Everything I've read states that Carcaterra made this up. All the articles say he fabricated all this from other events that took place in his neighborhood when he was growing up. Not only that, they all make sense. I would love nothing more than for this to be a true story, but it probably isn't. That 1% will keep me going through with my research to prove it's true though!

To make money. Sell books. Get famous. A "true" story this horrific is certain to sell more books than just another fictional tale of abused boys getting sweet, sweet revenge.

I think it's mostly fiction. Maybe inspired by true events but I would rather the events that happen in this movie DIDN'T really happen. I mean, 4 boys lives shattered through sexual and physical abuse? I'd rather it was fiction.
