I thought she was very likeable, she's flawed in her nihilism and they made sure to point that out many times. She was well written and she goes through growth and softens throughout the course of the series. It also helped to have other characters to balance or bounce off her persona.

I'm currently rewatching the show, and yeah, she's flawed, but as you say, that's part of her evolution. She learns and grows. And so do several other characters. It's still a very well written show after all this time.
So many stories, so little time. -

Yes, I kind of wished they made a continuation…maybe in the form of a special, movie, or mini series to commemorate her 10 or even 20 year high school reunion…funny or die did a parody skit based on that premise some years back…now i cant even say I'd want any type of revisiting of the show, I've seen beloved IPs be utterly destroyed and/or used as political/activist trojan horses far too many times in the past 10+ years…There were plans for a "reboot"…originally focused on Daria and…not Jane, but Jodie(???) very odd choice, then they decided to axe Daria and only focus on Jodie…it was in development hell for a few years though it made it at least into pre-production before being cancelled. If that is the way they want to handle this character and series, I think I'd rather they just didn't. Maybe the magic of the show could only exist in the time it was made…
