Three small things that I like about this movie

- I love the early scene of the view of the house from above with a fairy whizzing past, with its wings sounding like cicada wings.
- The filmakers must have researched ghosts. They obviously knew that in the most commonly recorded ghost-sitings, there is no communication whatever between the ghost and the viewer. The ghost simply performs whatever action it is seen performing. It is recorded that the most typical ghosts are always seen to do the same thing, as if it was caught on video. This is the way the Roman soldiers that march along Hadrian's wall act. This is the way that the most usually attested to ghost at the Drury Lane theatre acts, and the way that the Green Lady of the White Tower acts.
- The father's interest in technology. We are told that the father wants to generate power for the mill. However, when we see the house by night, it is clear that he has already harnessed power to put a light by the gate. How well the filmakers have done it! It is not a steady beam but the wavering light of a water-driven generator. This very accurate little detail is inserted without comment as a sign of the man's ingenuity.

Thanks for your observations.
This is one of my favorite films.
The older woman gamely clapping for the Peter Pan performance, the girl not showing any reaction to the horribly maimed soldier, and any number of other moments.
