That kind of makes sense, but wasn't Demi Moore's character just an analyst? There has to be much more training involved in becoming a mission ready Navy SEAL wouldn't you think?

You could say that about almost any question regarding a movie - I was curious if it was a plot hole or if I missed how it was explained in the movie.
I'm guessing you're relatively young or relatively new to IMDB?

As the guy with the Navy SEAL symbol for a profile pic pointed out, they were already experienced for the most part.
It was explained in the movie rather simply, they were conducting training, and some sh!t was going down nearby. There was nobody else who could possibly provide assistance in time, so it was them or nobody. The man in charge told the captain they could do the mission, so the captain let them.
Old school military style. Nowadays you get Benghazi.
As for people saying she was "just an analyst", she was also an officer, and officers aren't supposed to be the ones going balls deep into a mission. It really made no sense, except in the capacity that she was the film's star, that she would end up out there by herself. It should have been a couple bitch Seamen, not a Senator handpicked Lieutenant. But other than that, in the military your job title doesn't preclude you from doing other things. Either you're accepting the premise they were letting the woman go into combat, or not, but plenty of people who were just "analysts" went into Iraq and Afghanistan with M-16s. Some of my friends did. I would too if I hadn't been so damn sick of the Navy after 3 ships.

So essentially you're saying in real life it would make sense but for this movie it's pretty much a plot hole? That's what I suspected, thanks.

That makes complete sense - thanks!

Well I was trying to give the most nuanced answer. Her being on the beach made sense. That kind of thing happens in real life. Her going out on her own, or with one other person, makes no sense for the film or reality. She was not a scout, so she had no business scouting.

The OP's question makes sense and the answer is this happens all the time
                      Look at Top Gun

Well yeah, in that regard the answer is every movie ever made that involved people training for something has to find a way to wedge in that training in "real world" way at the end. Some do it better than others.
