I thought that Claudia wanted to distance herself from that a marry a good guy and have a family and be happy unlike her mother. However, when she married lord Hoffman and Lilly and was kind to her and tried to make Lilly into aher daughter she was rebuffed. Then when looses her own child, partially because of Lilly, and can't have anymore pushed her off the deep end.
Wow, that's so different from how I saw it. I saw Claudia and the mirror as kindred souls, one completing the other, and both evil. One is the enabler, the other is corporeal, who not only acts out the evil deed suggested by its smarter alter ego, but revels in it. Both are extremely narcissistic.
Think of the glee Claudia feels each time she thinks she neutralized her rival. The joy she takes in Lily's dying pain. That sure seems like more than a little weakness to me. When the magic is gone, all she can say is "what have YOU done?" Where is her horror and remorse?

Eh, not really. Claudia was indeed vain about her appearance but she was still a good person. She endured 9 years trying to get pregnant and with Lilly rejecting her while she was kind. Lilly caused the stress that sent her into an early labor and while she was weak and vulnerable the mirror took that advantage. Nothing prior suggests that Claudia was evil otherwise they would have showed it. After her child was lost her mind went with it. Not being able to have a son for her husband and with her hatred of Lilly, she put all her crazy energy into getting rid of her. The glee you speak of is from her insanity, she was no longer the women she was prior to losing the baby. I can't make any sense of the last part. What remorse would she have felt? Her change wasnt due to magic it was trauma. She snapped and never came back and the mirror played on her weakness after losing the baby. She is taking joy from killing her enemy who brought her pain. When Claudia arrived she had nothing but good intentions, she wasnt always evil.

Monica keena was about 17 years old when this was made.
Monica Keener played older Lily. Taryn Davis played her younger version. She was 12.

What's your point ? Keena's Lily didn't get along with Claudia either.

My point is, from 12 to 17 she was a kid/teen. She wasn't all that bratty, either, she was simply exhibiting normal kid/teen behaviors. Hardly a good case for murder attempts.

She was a bitch as a little girl who grew into a teenaged one. She only wanted to make amends when it was too late.

No she was a little girl who lost her mother AND her nanny ,the woman who raised her, arguably because of Claudia. She grew up into a beautiful teen who didn't care much for her step mother but who never wanted to hurt her either.

She had no memory of her mother so that can only stretch so far. It is not like she knew her mother and she had recently died and then Claudia showed up. She never knew her so, that idea is deflated. Lillyanna had more hand in the nanny demise than Claudia. Had she behaved like a decent child an not thrown the water in Claudia face and ran off into Claudia's room, it would not have happened. Claudia had nothing to do with the nanny's death so your "arguably" is shot down. I don't know why you are defending the "beautiful teen" who had been nothing but cruel to a women who tried to befriend her and had done nothing to her.

I'm defending her because I see her as a three dimensional character, I have other arguments but I don't care to share them anymore. Anyway, I don't pick fights over fictional characters with people. You have your opinion (and a superiority complex issue going on apparently) and I have mine. Take care. Ta Ta.

Ah, so being a malignant bitch to her step mother for nine years of kindness on Claudia's part is completely acceptable and normal? Also, you really cant use the "hardly a good case of murder" because that is not why Claudia went after her. Stop downplaying the girls behavior.

Malignant bitch? I remember two incidents. The throwing of water occurred when she was twelve, and would have merited some form of punishment, perhaps grounding, though as a brand new stepmother I would have preferred to try to build a relationship with the kid first. The dress incident was a typical teenage declaration of independence, "I want to pick my own dress," which called for some form of negotiation about what she wanted and was her desired dress suitable for her age and occasion, not a passive-aggressive playing victim because stepdaughter didn't want to roll over and do exactly as mommies dearest commanded. Again, nothing worthy of murder, at least not in my world. I was more appalled by the stepmother's behavior, playing tug-of-war over dad with a twelve year old kid as if she were a kid herself. Being a stepmother requires maturity.

And what tug of war was Claudia playing? Where I come from it would be a big punishment to behave as the little girl did, wouldn't have crossed our minds. It is clear that Claudia came there with nothing but good intentions. Don't play ignorant, we are supposed to be under the impression that the girl was indeed wrong and that Claudia was trying to build a good relationship. We also know she only decided to play nice after Claudia lost the baby otherwise she would not have had no reason to apologize. She admitted to being cruel, so your argument loses any validity. Come back when you have a decent defense.

I don't know what impression we were "supposed" to be under, but it wasn't my impression. If I were entering a new home, I'd be reassuring my new stepkid that I wasn't trying to usurp her dad all to myself. I wouldn't be pointedly sucking face with him in front of her.
I do expect kids in this situation to be jealous.
Maybe I come from a kinder environment than you did. But I still doubt you'd come after your stepdaughter with deadly ammunition if she didn't behave perfectly.
