Thank you. Jeez, there are so many idiots on this board who don't seem to have a clue. The dialogue was quite clear that the 500k was in Max's safe, so killing him then would have been a disaster. He probably intended to kill him later though, along with Jackie, after getting his money from Max's office safe.
I might go into the scamming game judging from the number of numbskulls that are out there. Seriously!

But, yes, as has been stated, Ordell needed Max alive to get his money. Once that happened, had it not been a set up, I think Ordell would have killed both Max and Jackie.
