There's a scene at the barbeque where Trent sticks his finger through a hole in Sean's shirt and rubs his chest, and then later at the confrontation in the road Sean kisses Trent. These are both quite a surprise, not least because both are carried out in front of other people suggesting that he was quite open about his love of Trent.
I can't work out if these are supposed to be real gay attraction on Sean's part or are an alegory for the gated comunity's hatred of 'trailer trash' to the point that they can play with them in any way they want. -

I got the impression that there was something in the past between them- during the shirt scene, when Trent puts his fingers through the hole he says something like 'you had better taste back then.' Sean was transferred into a private school after a few months so it could well be that something happened between them which led to him being transferred.

Sean was transferred away in 3rd grade if I remember correctly, and Trent doesn't even remember him until he realizes that he was the kid who got dropped off at school in the fancy blue BMW. So I don't think there was anything in the past there.

All I got from that was that Sean was gay and had taken a liking to Trent. He was probably a closet-case, which would explain his taking out his anger on Trent and then just as easily defending him from Brett.

I agree with you & with youshotandywarhol.
Sean probably was a closet homosexual. I wish whatever happened between them in the past was explained better.
Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
