I'm a girl and I am somewhat ashamed that I love such an obvious chick flick:P

I also enjoy watching this movie too, I'm not ashamed to admit. Thanks Bullfrog for the Frank Capra comment I agree 100%.

I'm a guy and straight, and MJB is in my top 10 favorite moveis. Typically I dont' like chick flicks, but I don't see MJB as a chick flick. It operates on so many levels. It hints at religion without ever discussing it. It explores what it means to be in love. And it demonstrates ultimate power because death has the ultimate card in his hand.
It would be interesting to see the demographics data on who liked this movie. Male-female, college vs. high school, religous vs. non-religious. I suspect the people who liked it are into intelligent films and not necessarily Rambo lovers.
I do wonder if the film would have been better if Gweneth Paltrow had played the role that Clare played. Gwenth was slated to play the part, but that was at a time when she and Brad were going through a rough patch. Clare did a fine job, but I suspect Gwenth would have been better.
The acting was fantastic. The music incredible. Years later I was walking in the French Quarter (pre-Katrina) and heard music from MJB. It lives on!

I am just curious, why is it if you are a "guy" and you like this movie that you need to start off with defining your sexuality? No offense, but no one cares if you desire a dick or a vagina because in the end the readers here don't know you. I see a LOT of posts like this and it is troubling for a few reasons.

            1. No one knows who you really are so stating you are a "straight male" is a dumb-ass point to make.
            2. Many gay men may not like this movie so should they start off their threads with "I am a gay male and I really hate this movie and usually I love chick flicks"
See my points? Maybe if people stopped labeling we'd all be better off. Think about it.

Because, judging from these posts by the OP & others like him, not stating your sexuality would get a reply along the lines of "No wonder you liked the movie. You're a fag!"

I love that you also latched on the fact it does explore what it means to be in love.
Clare is love with death. And she's so frightened by that prospect and the consequence she does not even have the fortitude to utter this out. She cowers behind the assumption that death is indeed joe, coffee shop guy when the truth is, she wants to be with joe inhabited by death, and not a dead soul wandering the netherrealm with death at her side.
It's complicated but understandable. She's young has not lived a full life yet as parish has, and I believe death understands that and renege on his vow to take her with him.

You're wasting your time mentioning Frank Capra. Chances are the OP hasn't the slightest who he is. But, damned if Michael Bay isn't just a perfect damned artist!

I'm a guy and this film is probably my favourite and I'm only in my teens. This is a very intelligent film and I'm not going to say that I would love it if Anthony Hopkins wasn't in it, though, because he is THE reason I love it so much. The acting is incredible and the story is very beautiful and the music is breathtaking. I can't find a single thing wrong with this film!

This movie was great. If somebody's attention span can't handle it, then that's their problem and loss. This was a great movie; but its true, you do actually have to sit there and listen and suffer through the fact that there are no explosions and only 1 person dies.
I thought Jeffery Tambour was great, right uphere with Hopkins.
But if you just can't take it, I'm pretty sure the A-Team is on DVD.
There's a word for people who think everyone is conspiring against them.
                              That's right: perceptive!

I'm hoping the "not that there's anything wrong with that" line is from Seinfeld. If it is, I enjoyed the reference.

I thought this movie was truly amazing. There were times when it just touched on so many topics and yet during most of those moments, it was all through unspoken actions.

Well, i managed the whole film, mainly due to the fact that it is wonderful. The dialogue is something to behold, but im going to assume that you did not notice that, nor could you ever appreciate it.
I usually do not like Brad Pitt, i have never thought him a good actor, yet in this film he portrays his character very well, he fits the role set upon him and i do not disagree with the casting.

This movie is one of my all time favorites. I thought it was under-rated and a must see. The characters were perfectly written and casted. This could not have been better. The score was incredible and moving. This was by far the most compelling and complete movie Ive ever had the privilege to see. The acting was absolutely inspiring and uplifting. I would go so far as to say this is number one in my book and I think it should have won Oscars for each character and score. Ive never seen a movie that could create so much tension without saying a word. A truly great film, a work of art!!
