Ummit did but it bypasses Mortal Kombat 2 and really is a combo of MK3 and MK4, it had most of them in, but no development of the new characters and little screen time of the new ones.

Far be it from me to defend this film (though I did find it adequately enjoyable, nothing great, but adequate), but MKII wasn't bypassed, the first film was an amalgamation of the first 2 games

ehh.that is really stretching it to say that, the only two things that the First movie had from the second game were, Kitana, and the young Shang Tsung, outside of that, everything else was all from one. So from mortal kombat 2 your have bypassed, Shao Khan holding his own tournament, Kintaro (my favorite boss) Sonya and Kano being held prisoner by Shao Khan (I don't count the end of 1 as Sonya's capture from 2 because it was Shang Tsung who kidnapped her, and it was for one match not the tournament)

ehh.no
the only two things that the First movie had from the second game were, Kitana, and the young Shang Tsung, outside of that, everything else was all from one.
When combining more than one game into one movie, not everything is going to be kept. And you left out Reptile. Yes, he is a hidden character in the first MK, but he was just a green palette swap of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The character in the movie is clearly based heavily on the character from MKII. Also scripted, but not filmed (though it was kept in the novelization), was a scene where Sonya fights Shang Tsung's bodyguard, a female ninja named Jade. That's another MKII reference.
So from mortal kombat 2 your have bypassed, Shao Khan holding his own tournament, Kintaro (my favorite boss)
Like I said, combining both games into one movie will cause certain things to be left out. I'd love to hear your explanation as to why Shao Kahn would hold his own tournament when there's already one going on? And they couldn't include Goro
and
Kintaro, so they went with the more popular Shokan
Sonya and Kano being held prisoner by Shao Khan (I don't count the end of 1 as Sonya's capture from 2 because it was Shang Tsung who kidnapped her, and it was for one match not the tournament)
Sonya's capture was still a reference to her character's capture in MKII, no matter how much you want to dig your heels into the dirt and say it isn't. You don't have to like it, but you're going to have to accept it.
Sounds to me like you just want to have your cake and eat it too. Either that, or you're just searching for any reason to justify your thought pattern.

Well the novelization and movie are two TOTALLY different things. We are talking strictly movie and game here, in the movies, Jade is not introduced until the 2nd movie, and also in MKII Jade was a pallet change of Sonya, not Kitana and Meelina like in 3. Also i never remember in Reptile's past he was created by a lizard like creature got sucked into an outwolrd statue. Also I know not everythign is going to be kept, but little nuances and bits here and there can't or should n't be constituted as combining two games.

The Plot of Mortal Kombat II is "Following his defeat, Shang Tsung begs his master, Shao Kahn, to spare his life. He tells Shao Kahn that the invitation for Mortal Kombat cannot be turned down, and if they hold it in Outworld, the Earthrealm warriors must attend. Kahn agrees to this plan, and restores Tsung's youth. He extends the invitation to Raiden, who gathers his warriors and takes them into Outworld. The tournament is dangerous, as Shao Kahn has the home field advantage, and an Outworld victory will unbalance the furies and allow Outworld to subsume Earthrealm." It's a new Tournamet that Khan startsso there
Sounds to me like you just want to have your cake and eat it too. Either that, or you're just searching for any reason to justify your thought pattern.
My thought pattern is just, you cant say its a combination of 2 games, when one is barley refferenced. How can you say, well this is based on MK 1 and 2, when the movie is 98% the first game and 2% of the second, where it's all more or less easter egg crap then actual substance.

That's wrong. In MKII, Jade was a green palette swap of Kitana and even fought with her fans.
Also i never remember in Reptile's past he was created by a lizard like creature got sucked into an outwolrd statue.
Which is why I said "based on" and not "an exact duplicate of"
Also I know not everythign is going to be kept, but little nuances and bits here and there can't or should n't be constituted as combining two games.
But alas, they can and do. Anal about minutia much?

We are talking strictly the movie here, and in the movie, there is already a tournament going on, and you haven't explained why, in the movie, with a tournament already in progress, Shao Kahn would call another oneso there nothing

Considering that the movie has Kitana, Reptile, Jax (briefly), Johnny Cage's Friendship move, and a young Shang Tsung, it's clear to apparently everybody but you that the movie is based off of the first two games. If it wasn't based off of both MK and MKII, then none of that stuff would have been in there at all, now would it?
However, points awarded for your conviction. I guess the important thing is that at least
you
think you make sense.

Ok, with Jade, I apoligize, yes I was wrong, I was remembering a old rumor that in the first game that - during the second endurance match, if you get two flawless victories AND do your fatality, with out blocking (just like to fight reptile) you were able to fight "Jade" which was a greened out Sonya. now getting back to

We are talking strictly the movie here, and in the movie, there is already a tournament going on, and you haven't explained why, in the movie, with a tournament already in progress, Shao Kahn would call another oneso there nothing
Ok let me explain this again, the second game is a BRAND NEW TOURNAMENT, that Shang Tsung convinces Shao Khan to hold to re-challenge Earthrealm in Mortal Kombat, which they must accept. The progression from their is, Khan furious at his loss in outworld to Liu Kang he puts into his plan of bringing Queen Sindel back to life. which they also never explain in this horrible movie that she needed to be ressurected in Earthrealm for Khan's plan to work. The progression of the movies should have been like the games, cause this movie, should have been Khan's tournament and then the invasion of earth.
you also said at one point, "Like I said, combining both games into one movie will cause certain things to be left out." Leaving out a whole plot point and bypassing storyline, that's a lot to be left out.
Considering that the movie has Kitana, Reptile, Jax (briefly), Johnny Cage's Friendship move, and a young Shang Tsung, it's clear to apparently everybody but you that the movie is based off of the first two games. Reptile still doesn't count since he was in the first game, you will not be changing my opinion on that. So they added two character, one of which was used for character building only, A single friendship move, and the alternate verison of another character. wow that was really worth throwing away the second game for and going straight to the earthrealm invasionwhich they screwed up.

There is nothing I can say to someone who adamantly shoves his fingers in his ears. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see, so it's a waste of my time at this point. You're certainly entitled to your opinion that the Mortal Kombat movie wasn't based on the first two games. You just keep right on thinking that

Fine you stubborn jackass, you win happy
Resorting to childish insults? You're more mature than that
I'm sorry i don't see that 2 1/2 characters and 1 f'ing movie from 1 game put into a movie about another constitutes a full amalgamation of 2 games.
We were over this, we're not going over it again. There is a difference between "based on" and "amalgamation". A difference I humbly suggest you learn
I'm sorry that this movie, which could have capitalized on the first mortal kombat decided to bypass an entire storyline just so they could make this garbage.
If you say Mortal Kombat is garbage, it makes it hard for me to believe that you saw Annihilation. MK is considered one of the best and most faithful video game film adaptations. Granted, with comparisons to movies like Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros., and House of the Dead, "most faithful" doesn't seem like a hard title to earn
Yeah we are two shmucks who are arguing symantics over a Mortal Kombat movie,
We do seem to be enjoying our schmuckery don't we
but I DO see your points, yes the DO USE things from MKII but for the amount of content that they use, with the exception of Kitana, it's nothing more than easter eggs.- Jax was mainly used for background on Sonya, a total of 2 minutes screen time if that.
- the "young" Shang Tsung. probably easier to use the young version, then put him in makeup for hours to make him old.
- the friendship move for Johnny it was that, Rip Scorpion in half or uppercut him so hard it decapitates himthat and the way Linden Ashby played Cage, it fit the character.
They definitely could have done much more and much better with the references and characters (such as giving Jax more screen time, and introducing Mileena with Kitana), but I was just saying that even though they were small references to MKII, they were still in there
but where I have come back and countered them all you do is end off with, "you do get it, I'm right and your wrong"I know you did actually use those words but that's how it comes off.
Then I guess it's up to me to apologize for that, but in all fairness you seemed to be coming off with a mindset that the first movie was not based on MK and MKII, in which case I kinda
was
right (don't hit me
)
In my first posting I had said that this (MK:A) was more of 3 and 4 combined, well looking in hindsight, they did with this movie the same as the first, they took 3, and inserted Shinnokthat's it. So this movie really is all 3 with 1 character from MK4two if you count at the end when Raiden is made an Elder God, cause everything elsefor the most part, is all MK3 the characters, the "plot".
You're right, it is mostly UMK3, just like the first movie is mostly MK, with parts from other games.

No, I loved Mortal Kombat, and is one of my favorite VG movies ever. My referal of Garbage was to MK:A (which IS the board we are on)They bypassed the story of MKII (the game) for this garbage (MK:A) And there have been other movies that have held close to source material: Hitman, Silent Hillumm well that's all that is coming to mind right now.
I think we have finally come to ahead on our back and forthing This was actually fun, I just hope the eventual Mortal Kombat movie (in 20XX) will be better than the first one, and not worse than the second.

No blasts today, I say the same thing about Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
An excellent sci-fi movie, an epic fail as a Final Fantasy film

Please, don't get me started on that movie though I do agree with you 100% if you took off the Final Fantasy, and just called it, The Spirits Within, then it would have been a good movie, but when you call something Final Fantasy, and have 0 elements of what final fantasy isthen we got problems.

Lol, well dang Im late as this was made so long ago, but I have to say I more agree with the Griever than Zan.
MK1 REPRESENTED MK1, not 2. MK: A basically said screw MK2, MK1 was not a mix of MK1-2. It wasnt. MK1s story was basically how it was in the game.
I dont see how anyone can think the first MK had to do with MK 1 and 2.
Reptile was a hidden character in 1.
Jaxwas that Jax? Did she say Jax, I dont remember, I think she did though. Still, he was barely in it at all. That was fan service.
As someone else said, there were 2 characters from MK2, again, fan service. You cant possibly believe this had elements of 1 and 2.
As for young Shang Tsung, they could find an older actor or just let him be young, that is really stretching it!
