Being Greek, I might just be talking beep right now, but isn't high school supposed to last 3 years?
Well he probably meant that it took them (much) longer to finish it, bright as they were!
It's a typical school joke, I've even seen it in a Greek comedy from the 60's

They obviously got held back in high school for those extra years. High school in the United States is generally four years, grades 9-12.

they weren't. It was a joke. "All 7 years of high school" means he was held back three times. It's a common joke, too.

Very clearly a joke. Maybe they should have displayed the word "JOKE" at the bottom of the screen for that certain demographic out there.

Even if they include junior high it would only be 6 years not 7 years.
