The parents should be informed since it's a health issue and they should know what their child is up to, but they shouldn't be able to force a child to have a baby. It's a decision the child will have to live with the rest of their life, so it should be up to them alone.

It’s another way of controlling women’s reproductive rights. I can’t read the entire article due to a pay wall, but it says one claims to have been 17. I believe most states permit “minor” women to get birth control. Wondering if the parents involved would have forced the women to carry through with the pregnancy.
How do I feel? I feel it’s not the state’s business.

I completely agree with you which is why my position on this issue requires me to have some hypocrisy. I am 100% against issues like teachers transitioning children in their charge, either medically or socially, without immediately notifying the parents. I believe it should be a fire-able offense, even criminal.
However, I believe females should have 100% autonomy over their own bodies. If they're old enough to get pregnant, they deserve the same rights and protections. We also don't know the circumstances. A parent being able to force their daughter to give birth when she's 12 or whatever, especially if she does not want that for herself, just sounds abusive and cruel to me. What's a girl to do? I can see where an adult (preferably female) authority figure could provide a health and safety net to a girl who may fear her parents' wrath.
I'm so conflicted on this because I hold both positions and I recognize that in doing so means I'm also holding opposing viewpoints simultaneously. This one is really tough for me.

Well I think some circumstances may allow a minor to consent to healthcare like abortion in situations like the parents being abusive or their life or safety is somehow at risk for keeping it. I’m not sure. I do think if they are able to consent to a procedure then they should be able to and be protected under hipaa. It’s tricky with a minor because parents usually always have the rights to access their child’s medical records besides a few exceptions and I think abortion should be one of them.

I can't read most of the article but I feel that the only intervention by a teacher or social worker should be mediating between the young girl and her parents. They definitely ought not to be arranging or paying for terminations unless a court intervenes. That seems to me to be overstepping.
