48 Hours is classic. Rush Hour in the same light is classic as well.

'Classic' has become a very debased word.

i agree. BUT classic meaning its timeless. i can watch this movie over and over again until am 80 and it still won't get boring. plus that war scene is timeless

Definitely. Especially as it's becoming older.

I like this movie more at 25 than I did when it came out.

Rush Hour is not exactly a classic, because the overall quality is inconsistent.
However, I think that with time it will be seen as a "significant" movie, because it is probably the first in this genre to have all-minority heroes (from different groups) and white villains. The heroes, in addition, include black, Asian, and Latina/Hispanic; all three major ethnic/racial minorities of the U.S. Once these groups outnumber white Anglo Americans, in retrospect this film will take on more importance.

I'd say it's a modern classic, like Casino Royale and The Dark Knight.
It will never be as widely revered as The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, or The Shawshank Redemption, but it's pretty solid.

I wouldn't say it's a classic like say, The Godfather and there are certainly better buddy-cop films like Lethal Weapon or Beverly Hills Cop.
Still, I do like Rush Hour and it holds up as a fun action comedy. I understand that Tucker's presence can irritate some, but here him and Chan bounce off each other nicely and Ratner's action sequences balance humor and thrills well.
