        Both far outclass SPR
SPR is to war films what Star Wars is to Sci Fi

I guess I'm in the minority with me liking Platoon. I guess The Great Escape doesn't count as a traditional war film either

Nope. I love both those movies. I just didn't put them in my top 5.

My top 5 in no particular order:

                  1. Apocalypse Now
                  2. Paths of Glory
                  3. The Deer Hunter
                  4. Dr. Strangelove (I don't know if this one counts, but it's listed as a "war movie")
                  5. Saving Pvt. Ryan
                    "You talkin' to me?"

A couple of others that aren't so well known:
                              The Steel Helmet (Korean War)
Battle Ground (Battle of the Bulge, much better than the movie of that name)

                                Another good one:
Sniper starring Jude Law and Ed Harris.
It fell under the radar because it's the battle of StalingradRussians vs Germans. This movie made me realize that sniping is more than sitting in a tree and picking off enemy soldiers.

I was impressed by the quality of both Russian movies above. Definitely a must-see, even with subtitles, I've watched both, like 3 times each.
