I was curious about your term, "kill-ratio extravaganza". That seems a term particularly apt for Vietnam. It was a war of attrition per Westmoreland's plan. It wasn't particularly about taking and holding territory as WWII was. Some say that was one of the major reasons the US was unsuccessful (I'm not going to say "lost" because it was more of a forfeit).
