Went with a friend to the Maury Show yesterday, got a free bus ride, free pizza, all that jazz.
Anyway, the show is a complete fake. You see the producers, the Assistant Director, the studio heads, the script. Hell, before the show even starts, the assistant director tells the audience to react to everything dramatically. Giving us imagination visuals of "cute babies" and "angry husbands".
During the stories, another one of the production assistants would cue the audience at the appropriate times. Other instances, the assistant would be signalling to the people on stage to show more emotion, project their voice, etc. etc.
It's a total fake, I'm just surprised people treat this show seriously -

I don't know you and can't say whether you're telling the truth or not, but I did see one episode where a woman had brought on a guy and his wife about a paternity matter. The man's wife was sitting there calmly and quietly while her husband and this other woman ranted at each other. In a long shot, taking in the whole stage from Maury to the wife, it showed some staff member actually step up to the wife, reach over and touch her shoulder to get her attention, and say something to her. As he stepped away, the wife flew into a rage and started the usual cussing and flailing of arms, etc. That one quick shot told me these people are either actors or at least real people being coached to behave crazy for the cameras.
That episode has been rerun and I can't remember which one it was. But the scene is exactly as I described it. If you don't have the show taped, where you can rerun the scene to study it, you would probably miss it.

I considered the same thing that the show is a fake, but one thing has me question how fake it is: the paternity segments, would people actually exploit their children on TV just for the sake of money? If money is even involved.

People who watch it are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, that's for sure.
But to those who have more than two brain cells rubbing together, it's obviously a staged manure fest.
