Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Maury

    GraceFromSoCal — 10 years ago(May 27, 2015 03:03 PM)

Was that woman for real? She INSISTEDas they all do!that she NEVER cheated on her husband. Yet, there they were, in all their half-white/half-black glory, twins who clearly were NOT her husband's offspring. She insisted that "curly hair" runs in her family. Um, yeah, curly hair is one thing, negroid features and skin color are quite another.
Why on earth would she come on the show for a paternity test that could only have ONE outcome, i.e., proof that her husband is not the biological father of her twins? And why keep insisting she never cheated on him? So then, what, was it an immaculate conception?

I've always wondered the same thing with some of these women. I honestly think they like the attention, regardless of how negative it is. Or they are pressured into going, and feel some how they can fool the polygraph test or that there is a slim chance that the paternity test could come back in their favor. I also think some of these people come on the show purely for the fact that they want to be on TV and want a free trip.
I do find it annoying when a lot of these extremely promiscuous women come on the show and every time say that so-in-so is must be the father and demands that they be in the babys life. I get it. However, if you have been on the show several times, and each time the words is not the father are uttered, then I can completely understand where the guys are coming from. Especially if the baby looks nothing like them like in the case you just pointed out. I am sorry, but I can understand a baby with two white parents having a swarthy look if you have ancestors with dark hair and complexion however, as you pointed out, the baby was clearly mixed race not that there is a problem with that. But I can completely understand where the husband was coming from! Any rational person could.
All in all I feel bad for the children in these episodes. I wonder if they have done any updates for earlier episodes of Maury in the 90s where the kids are now in their teens and how they feel about being a part of a Maury paternity episode?

Yeah, I don't know! Is it really worth the humiliation factor just for a trip to Stamford, Connecticut?! I don't know.
however, as you pointed out, the baby was clearly mixed race not that there is a problem with that.
I was afraid my post would be taken the wrong way, i.e., I'd be labelled a racistwhich is the furthest thing from the truth. My half-black niece can easily attest to that.
I can understand when a person THINKS they might be able to fool the polygraph test, but the PATERNITY test?! I realize some people aren't very bright, but surely everyone knows by now that DNA results are not negotiable, they're basically carved in stone.

That woman didn't sound like she was lying, she must have literally convinced herself she had never cheated, and she had a schmuck husband who really tried to believe her and stayed with her anyway.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

You know what? I actually had a similar thought several days after posting this thread because, on reflection, I thought she really did sound sincere.
What if she truly DIDN'T know she'd had sex with someone else? Could she have been "date rape" drugged?
Or, much less likely, considering there were twins, could she have been given the wrong babies in the hospital?
I realize both ideas sound farfetched, if not downright crazy! But these things DO happen. So it makes one wonder.

I considered the drugged thing, but I'm not sure if you could be drugged and not realize it. Seems like if she woke up somewhere that wasn't in bed with her husband she'd be concerned. Even if she were redressed seems like she would have noticed a soreness or something. And getting pregnant from a one time encounter is pretty unlikely.
If the babies were switchedseems like she would have wondered right away why they didn't look like them. I assume they came out looking black. How often are boy girl twins born in an average hospital they could have been swapped anyway?
Nothing about their situation made much sense.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

I know both ideas are pretty farfetched, especially the 'wrong babies' scenario in the hospital, but there's just something about her that makes me wonder.

I don't usually go there, as far as posting on IMDb goes, but I'll do it now: I was raped at 17and became pregnant. (THANKFULLY a miscarriage followed.) So while it may be unusual for pregnancy to occur from a one-time encounter, it's most definitely possible.
But, yeah, she would've realized something was amiss when she woke up/came to. I just don't know. Perhaps she's just a REALLY good, convincing actor!

But I thought the body had a way to shut that whole thing down!
I'm sorry. I'm still baffled a politician said that. That's really terrible that happened.
According to [link]http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20120313-sex-in-the-city-or-elsewhere[/link] your odds during ovulation are 25% and other times 5% so whenever any woman on this show mentions it was a one night stand, I always lean towards no. So possible, of course, but unlikely, was any explanation was.
If she's an actor or faking it to get on TV, she was very good, but so was her husband. Like I find it hard to believe the twins were 4 and it took him that long to expect an answer. Maybe he just has really low self esteem and doesn't think he can find someone else or was just in such a deep denial or something. Confusing story all around.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Thanks. But it's made me the stronger woman I am today.
I don't watch Maury very much, but I've seen enough to know how women talk/act/behave when they're lying about "NEVER!" having cheated on their husband/fiance/boyfriend, and there was something distinctly different about this one. It goes beyond just her demeanor while insisting she hadn't cheated; it's also in the way she reacts to the DNA results. Again, she could just be one hell of an actor, but she SEEMED genuinely surprised. I'd love to see a followup on this case! Maybe we'd find out that it was all an act. If so, she needs to head out here and get a career in TV or movies!
