wellScaryMaryyour lack of sense IS "scary"!! "Who's attacking Nancy?" Are you new here?
You must be or you wouldn't be making such a silly statement. Nancy Reagan gets attacked regularly by some posters here. Just check out this thread. They go after her regularly and her terrible "influence" in the White House,, yeah as if a First Lady would ever try to influence policy or be given carte blanche to redesign the country's health care system, oh wait
I remember her psychics and astrologers and I thought it was flaky then as I do now. Good grief, take a moment and try to comprehend what I'm saying! What is the point in attacking a deceased First Lady? She consulted psychics, oh the HORROR!
In the post before mine, it was stated "imagine if Hillary Clinton" had acted that way, or some such nonsense, conveniently forgetting that she DID act that way. She had that New Age guru in the White House to help her channel the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt. Once again, it's the hypocrisy. Let's go after Nancy Reagan but Hillary gets a pass. She has seances to channel Eleanor, but let's attack Nancy Reagan and her astrologer. I find it all nonsense. But it's business as usual here. Let's bash Nancy and give Hillary a pass.
If you want to attack Nancy Reagan for placesettings and designer gowns, well I guess the White House really should use paper plates and plastic forks for State dinners. Don't be such a partisan 'tard.
If you want to attack a First Lady for "designer gowns", well let's go after one of my personal favorite First Ladies, Jackie Kennedy. Yeah, I'd much rather the First Lady represent the country wearing fashions from K Mart, blue jeans and biker shorts. Can you be any sillier? What do you CARE if she wore designer gowns? How did that affect your life? Did Nancy get dresses that were supposed to be delivered to you? Could you be MORE petty?
My grandmother used to call her "Fancy Nancy" and Truman Capote, when asked what would be agood birthday gift for Nancy quipped, "Versailles Palace." I know she liked the finer things in life. But that hardly made her evil. I don't see Hillary or her husband turning down six figure speaking fees.
You say Nancy wasn't concerned with the problems of the country. Oh come on, you are so used to the "reign" of First Lady Hillary that you assume the wife of the President has an elected official role.
Yeah, so make fun of her "just say no" campaign. So what would be better? "Just say yes! Try those drugs and after you are lying in a gutter with a needle stuck in your arm, then say no." Just admit that nothing Nancy Reagan would have done would have appeased your partisan hatred of her.
      Ronald Reagan and his "jellybeans".
Oh the horror. Now I KNOW you didn't say NO! Somebody who is thinking clearly wouldn't say something so stoo-pid. That's the best you've got? He gave up smoking and developed a jellybean habit.
Now you go after Reagan and AIDS. That was Nancy's fault too, of course. There's been a ton of partisan, mostly false, rhetoric attacking Ronald Reagan for not stopping AIDS. He didn't talk about it. Neither did Rock Hudson. There were fake stories of the cause of his death when Hudson died.
I remember he appeared on the TV show Dynasty and had to kiss the character of Crystal, played by Linda Evans. It didn't occur to him to warn the producers of the show or the actress, "Maybe I shouldn't do this. I have a condition that might be contagious." But oh let's go after Reagan. Liberals are barf inducing.
I know one of the criticisms was Reagan was suppose to warn the nation to practice "safe sex." WTF. THAT'S one of the duties of the President? Where's THAT in the Constitution? Lefties get their panties all in a twist when it is pointed out that gay bath houses and rampant promiscuity among gay men had a TAD more to do with the AIDS epidemic than Ronald Reagan. Personal responsibility just doesn't play well with the left.
I just can't figure out if the left is just NOT thinking or just NUTS!
Facts are not liberals strong suit. Rhetoric is. Thomas Sowell

[quoteIf you want to attack Nancy Reagan for placesettings and designer gowns, well I guess the White House really should use paper plates and plastic forks for State dinners. Don't be such a partisan 'tard. ]
If you want retarded, let's go back to the Reagan Administration's stance that ketchup qualified as a "vegetable" in public school cafeterias.
You're not talking to someone who doesn't remember Reagan and his "socially conscious" wife, who was DULY criticized for her designer gowns, Hollywood parties, and elaborate and expensive dinner place settings (and no, I don't expect them to eat off paper plates, but the regular White House China was just fine, no need to replace it with something so ostentatious). She was viewed then, as she is now, as an empty-headed socialite along the lines of Mrs. Drysdale from The Beverly Hillbillies. More concerned with having her hair and nails done than the real problems facing the country during Reagan's 8 years in office.
The fact that she consulted mediums and psychics and THEN foisted those opinions on the daily workings of the White House and her husband in particular is downright frightening. Either you're too young to remember this or you're just mouthing the typical GOP line that Ronnie was our country's savior. He wasn't, by the way.
He hung AIDS sufferers out to dry, never even addressed the issue or mentioned the term, refused to allow funding for AIDS research (all the while selling arms to our deadly enemy, Iran), had MANY mishaps involving dead soldiers and terrorist attacks on American interests when he was President, ran up the national debt into trillions, and fed us all a line about "Morning in America." Meanwhile, he gave rise to the Moral Majority and fools like Jerry Falwell, had people in his cabinet who thought the Beach Boys were "subversives" (laughable), and his wife threw her weight behind a useless "just say no" drug campaign. Her naivete was surprisingor was it? Since her own daughter pretty much disowned her, at the time.
Just to refresh your memory, here's what Wikipedia had to say about Reagan's Secretary of the Interior, James Wattwho thought the Beach Boys were encouraging "drug use."
From 1980 through 1982, The Beach Boys and The Grass Roots separately performed at Independence Day concerts at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., attracting large crowds.[13][14] In April 1983, Watt banned the concerts, on the grounds that the "rock bands" that had performed on the Mall on Independence Day in 1981 and 1982 had encouraged drug use and alcoholism, and had attracted "the wrong element", who would subsequently rob attendees of similar events.[14] Watt then announced that Las Vegas singer Wayne Newton, a friend and an endorser of President Reagan and a contributor to the Republican Party, would perform at the Independence Day celebration at the mall in 1983.[14][15] During the ensuing controversy, Rob Grill, lead singer of The Grass Roots, stated that he felt "highly insulted" by Watt's remarks, which he termed "nothing but un-American."[14]
The Beach Boys stated that the Soviet Union, which had invited them to perform in Leningrad in 1978, "obviously did not feel that the group attracted the wrong element."[14] Vice President George H. W. Bush said of The Beach Boys, "They're my friends, and I like their music."[14] Watt apologized to The Beach Boys after learning that President Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan were fans of the band.[16] Nancy Reagan apologized for Watt.[17] The White House staff gave Watt a plaster foot with a hole for his "having shot himself in the foot."[18]
At the 1983 event, Newton was booed by the audience when he came on stage.[16][19] The Tonight Show host Johnny Carson poked fun at Watt's last name, saying "James What? What?"
        Ridiculous. And laughable.
Nancy Reagan was no American ideal. She hearkened back to when a woman knew her placebehind her man. No one in recent American history embodies that more, in my opinion.
How interesting that you'd compare her to Hillary. I'm not doing that. The fact that you brought her name into it speaks volumes about your perspective.

          You're right, Mary.
Everyone should see the documentary, How To Survive a Plague. At the end , the ACTUP staff acknowledges, amidst tears, the lives that would've been saved if Reagan had taken action sooner. He didn't fund the research and the epidemic claimed millions more lives than it would have.
Did the astrologer tell him not to do anything about AIDS? Nancy? No one voted for them, but they damned millions of Americans to a living hell. And they never so much as said, "Sorry."

Watch. Somebody will bring up Hillary next.
Truth is, as you said, Hester, Reagan condemned millions of people to death because recognizing AIDS went against the Moral Majority. People tend to forget that when Reagan entered the White House, suddenly there was call for prayer in school, a return to the "1950s," and an absolute refusal to acknowledge women's rights, abortion rights, and the growing gay lobby. Reagan cowtowed to the Right, and his wife spent her time in the White House beauty parlor and deciding which designer gown to wear to which Hollywood fuction.
Someone brought up Jackie Kennedy. She was young, she was beautiful, and she was smart. None of those attributes can be used when discussing Nancy Reagan. Nancy was old, her daughter hated her (and him), and she really didn't have much going upstairs. Have you ever listened to her speak? Come on.

Here's a nice link to Nancy's horoscope "psychic," who apparently pretty much ran the White House after the Iran/Contra scandal.
Watch, before you know it, someone will post that Hillary did this, too. Haha! Leave it to the Conservatives. They hate losing.

Astrologer?? Stop being such an a-hole here!
People "damn themselves to hell" by their own sinful behavior. Sorry? Sorry for what? Sorry that your sinful, promiscuouis fornicating caused you to contract a disease from a stranger your were #bleeping@ and #$@#-ing. Sorry but that crap don't play with me!!
It was an "epidemic" caused by people who broke the commandments. I don't want to see people suffer, but when their actions are the cause of their OWN misery and they blame it on the Federal GOVERNMENT(?)what!!!, I lose sympathy. Don't live like a rutting pig and you won't contract sexually transmitted diseases.
If you have a problem with that, discuss it with God. If you don't believe in HIM or what His laws are, wellnot my problem.
