Why did Slater kill the Security Guard?

At that point, it's straight up murder. Did he have a dark past he was trying to cover up? He gave a funny look when they asked him if he had done this before. It was a crazy move to do that, until then they were all innocent. It made no sense to do that.

He was in a cocaine induced paranoid state on top of just killing this hooker (be it by accident or not) . It looked really bad and with drugs everywhere and him being a psychopath he figured the security guard out of the picture was the only way to get away with it. It plays on the whole out of control darkness that makes up the film. Just my take on it lol.
