Your comparison is .idiotic to say nicely. First off, The Hangover is a movie focus'ed purely on humor, with a basic plot of having a fun night without remembering and trying to put the pieces together. Bad things revolves around a murdered working girl, around subdtle humor, but not a ..knee slapper movie.
I think for someone like yourself, who has made a public point to compare such obsurd references, you really are genuinely uncultured in every sense of the word.
Last note being this.bad things, a movie that was eh okay. THe hangover, I enjoyed tremendously. As for complaining about it being considered top 250 or whatever your rant was about, deal with it, not everyone has such an obscured point of view.meaning not every thinks like you doget over it..NEXT -

And there are to similarities between the two movies. Both are about men who should never be alone with each other and drugs of any sort. They use the excuse of a bachelor party to do some terrible things. Terrible things snow ball, and the overall effect of it should be funny or something. The something is not good. I can't say I recommend either film, but I was more offended by the Hangover because of the scenes with the baby moments other people care not to recall, like pretending to jack off an infant. That's some terrible beep right there. THAT is the opposite of funny. I think we can all get that Very Bad Things was about some awful stuff that are only funny in the awkward satirical way, but The Hangover is for some reason a beloved "knee slapper" comedy where we all forget that child molestation and sexualization is f-ing not funny, and should not be awarded or tolerated. -

To the extent that a comparison is possible or necessary, maybe for me The Hangover was a victim of too much buildup by other people. I saw it and it had a couple of obvious laughs, but not a heck of a lot going on. I enjoyed VBT a lot more, but it's not difficult to see how a lot of people apparently found the tone of the film puzzling.

I much preferred The Hangover. For me, Very Bad Things is 5 bucks that could have been better used as TP.
The Hangover wasn't superb, but it made me laugh. Very Bad Things is the only movie I've ever wanted to walk out of. -

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS (duh, gtfo a message board if you haven't seen the movie, but saying this anyway so I don't get deleted)
Very Bad Things is a movie I will keep coming back to. For me, it hit me at the deepest point if I was to do something like what the characters did, I would experience the same fear, guilt, and panic they did.
Christian Slater's character I hated and respected at the same time. I hated him because he killed everyone to get rid of his problems, but I respected him because he did whatever it took to get ahead in life something that America has lost and the reason that the dollar continues to decline. See There Will be Blood for another example of where American people had the edge and cut throat attitude to be the best, but now is silenced by a bunch of liberal p**sies.
That being said, Very Bad Things played on my deepest fears and to me was quite plausible. To me the movie was not a comedy, although some parts I found truly hilarious, namely the ending and Cameron Diaz's character.
Very Bad Things is a TRUE dark comedy. The events and characters go so far beyond belief that it's hilarious; however, the word DARK needs to be thrown in, because while it's funny, it's also at the same time quite serious and something that will touch every individual in a different way. To me, it was a drama/horror film. To others it can be a comedy because they can't see this happening or consider the plot so far fetched it's a waste of time.
Unfortunately, you never see movies like this anymore. Hangover was good, but forgettable, I'll never watch it again. Very Bad Things I would easily tune into again - of which I've done numerous times already.
That's not a preference really, it's just intelligence (trust me I hate bringing this into a movie but it's true) and general morals playing into a film vs. a mind shutting off for 1 1/2 hours. -

I agree with dakotadevil.I got A few slight heheh moments out of the hangover.So without any hype I would have just called it a below average comedy but F king hell the hype surrounding it would make you hate it because it really is not that funny.I mean the asian dude was just annoying not funny.Mike Tyson couldn't even act as HIMSELF!!! Heather graham was beep music was beep tiger thing could have been funny but I hated the characters reactions to it.Then you have the obligatory zany character I forget his name.You know who I mean,the beardy dude.Lets just throw in a character who will say things that dickheads in the audience who are easily impressed or offended will say "Oh my God did he just SAY that?" Okay humour is largely a matter of taste but I can't help complaining about this so called hilarious movie.I did like the photos at the end though fair enough.You can just imagine the studio heads in production crossing off the the requirements for this beep brand of comedy
Very bad things always impresses me and never gets stale.(It ripped off a lesser known movie called stag but I think it really outdid it) My favorite bit has to be when Boyd starts preaching in the car and pulls over and the groom is screaming Whats your POOOIIINNNTTTTTT??? -

The Hangover is a VERY FUNNY comedy, perhaps the funniest of recent memory. I do not mind at all that is won Best Picture Comedy/Musical. However, even though it is a very different movie than Very Bad Things, VBT still wins as a better comedy, better bachelor party movie, better Vegas movie, and better movie overall.
Don't get me wrong, The Hangover is still hilarious, but it is no Wedding Crashers per say (in which Bradley Cooper portrayed legendary movie villain Sack Lodge). VBT is better, but that takes nothing away from the value or success of The Hangover. -

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
You think people like the characters Christian Slater and Daniel Day-Lewis portrayed in Very Bad Things and There Will Be Blood should be aspired and looked up to? Doing whatever it takes to get ahead in life and not caring who you hurt along the way is the exact opposite of how one should live their life. Only a sociopath would think that way. -

I agree!!!!!!!!!! I just happened to catch "Very Bad Things" on cable late one night a few years ago & told my husband he just had to see it. We watched it & it quickly became one of our favorite movies of all time! "Hangover" is a decent movie but is not nearly as funny or entertaining as "Very Bad Things". The chemistry between the characters, the acting and the writing was outstanding in "VBT". The phsyco bride, the crazy wife at home and the groomsmen were all a riot!! Dark comedy at its best!!!

I just watched 'Very Bad Things' for the first time last night.
It is as dark a comedy as 'The War of the Roses.' Both movies start out with a premise that can easily lead to lots of laughs and light comedy. Both end up dark and tragic and devoid of any shred of hope for happiness.
It's depressing. At the same time, kudos to the filmmakers - of both movies - for taking something and twisting it from what you expect into something almost unrecognizable as comedy. I would not even like to sit through 'Very Bad Things' again - what a downer - but I appreciate the effort and the craft. -

This comparison is like apples (The Hangover) to crap (Very Bad Things). One movie has Ed Helms the other has Jeremy Piven. The Hangover gets funnier every time I see it. Very Bad Things is supposed to be a black comedy, yet it isn't even remotely funny and its blackness is just a shaky, adolescently grasped retelling of Crime and Punishment rather than an interesting and authentic feeling character study. It can't be taken seriously on a dramatic level because, if you want to consider it realistically, you have to recognize the fact that the authorities would have snuffed them out pretty quickly; the hotel would have known that the detective had been sent to their room.
If you do somehow think Very Bad Things is a superior version of the Hangover then your intelligence is not to be respected. That's a fact and that's all there is to it.
