Escorts are often very attractive and clean (although not always). They typically do not have JUST sex and receive most of their work from business men with quite a bit of money.
Ever see business men in a restaurant or casino with EXTREMELY attractive women without a ring on their finger? Guaranteed that's an escort. They are simply company for an entire night and will gamble, have dinner, have drinks, chat with the guys friends, etc. Of course it is capped off at the end of the night with sex, but a lot of the money is spent elsewhere.
Agencies will usually charge quite a bit for providing the girl, and then of course there is additional pricing on top of using them as a point of contact. Think of it as a service charge for using their connections, and then you have to pay the price for the girl on top of it. Top of the line escorts that are extremely attractive and have a good track record with business men can typically run well over $1,000 a night.
In this movie, Kobe Tai was pricing $500 for straight sex outside of an agency. That's generally rather pricey, however, Kobe is quite hot in real life, so I wouldn't be shocked if she could demand that price and get away with it.
This all being said, I have never used an escort and prostitutes. Information can be found by just asking and searching around. -

I'm not a bit surprised to see some braindead politcally correct trolls here.
Slavegirls in Europe? That's fabulous, that's rich, the joke is amusing.
And I do agree that USD 500 is way overpriced for a straight sex. In Germany, you can have a same quality girl for as little as EUR 100.

you all do realise that prostituton is legal to an extent in the netherlands and many other countries eg. Australia and ?conincidentally? the crime rate in these countries is far lower than in America, UK etc. Straightovideo hit the nail on the head (excuse the pun) here with his analysis that prostitution is a dangerous game when it is run by criminals and immorale people, but when legalised there is chance for a screening process for identification, age verification and health issues making it much safer all around for those involved. Personally I've never had to pay for sex though so I don't see the appeal

Prostitution is legal in Holland. Illegal in the States, so economically speaking it's easy to understand why it's more expensive.
She was a high-end hooker as well, you can get a bj from a crack whore for like 10 bucks in the inner-cities in the States. -

And those were supposedly 1998 prices!
She probably charged that much because she thought he could afford it, being in a luxury suite as they were. The working girls are there to make money and try to get as much as they can. They know men will part with a LOT of money if they are drunk and horny. Common sense and frugality oft go out the window when the "little head" is doing the thinking.
As a side note, brothels are NOT legal in Las Vegas nor in Clark county (google Prostitution in Nevada) neither is prostitution. The closest LEGAL brothels are about an hour's drive outside of Vegas in Pahrump located in Nye county. (Guys, lose those receipts from that "sports bar" in Pahrump or use cash)
For those that are curious, Sheri's is probably the most upscale but is also the most expensive (about $300/15 min. 2011 prices and goes up from there).
They have a sex "menu" on their website for prices and services rendered.
Usually you can also find coupons on the websites to help drum up business during our challenging economic times.
However, they have a full bar and an "Old West" style saloon and it only costs a couple bucks for a coke or a beer and the pretty girls will come and talk to you for free. They will even give you a free tour of the country club-like facilities, no obligation. They are highly regulated by the state and EXTREMELY safe sex is mandatory (condoms, no kissing, even rubber gloves if you want to touch anything intimate). The place is HUGE and the girls are very attractive and eager to please. They have something for ALL tastes, as long as it's legal.
That being said, Vegas, like almost all towns, has its share of ILLEGAL prostitution, attactive girls working the casino floors, hustling up business for about $300 appx. (since the girls are "free agents" the price is usually negotiable). There are also TONS of paid "escorts" but sex is probably "extra" and costs a lot more, just like in the movie.
Although in the Vegas city limits it is technically illegal, the police usually look the other way but "officially" the law is enforced.
Vegas kinda has its "own" rules and as long as no one gets hurt, the police usually don't get involved.
