i am not sure what the hype is, when i could not connect with anyone, or get any humor, and there was weak chemistry between actors, even the plot is poor

no chemistry between the actors, are you actually insane? (no offense 😉 )
I mean, if you dont like the plot or don't get the humour, fair enough, but claiming a lack of chemistry between the actors come on.

Or, British humor is simply lowbrow and silly, being charitable.
maybe, but better than no REAL humour at all as for america, as was shown here by the american boyfriend and his "joke" about cold water.
but A Fish Called Wanda explains the differences very well

I really don't know what movie you were watching.
No "romantic comedy" has anything on this film and its characters.

agreed, and the poignant aspect was her reason for leaving her american boyfriend [and thus america] was simply that by being OUTSIDE the American Beauty [1999] she suddenly had Eyes Wide OPEN [1999] and started to THINK, and when she did she could not think of ONE reason for being with him.
                  simple as that
there were so many good movies from 1999, all outside of Hollywood influence, and in general not kind TO the American Apple Pie view

I'm American and really like this film. I doubt nationality has anything to do with the OP's comprehension. Maybe they just didn't get it. The movie, especially the ending, was beautifully done.

I think it's an amusing film. My favourite bit is where Hugh Grant pretends to be from Horse and Hound. the only bit. I don't like is where they are trying to set him up with another girlfriend. the third girl is very nice and obviously likes him, and you can see she would like to see him again, and you know he isn't interested. it's a bit sad.

Wow. Why do parents let their 12 year olds troll the net? Trolling is SO 5 years ago.
