"Throughout this entire tour, it was repeated over and over that the state is working hand in glove with ICE," Rep. Wasserman Schultz said. "This facility was inspected by ICE. They review their detention standards. They are using cages. These detainees are living in cages. The pictures that you've seen don't do it justice."
She described the detention areas as "cages, wall-to-wall," that held 32 people per "cage," which contained only bunk beds and "three tiny toilets" that are a toilet and sink combined into a single unit.
"They get their drinking water, and they brush their teeth, where they poop, in the same unit," the congresswoman said, adding that officials "bragged that they went above standards, supposedly."
She described the shower facility as having "no privacy at all," with 900 men sharing the space and having only "small walls in each shower."

However, her greatest shock was reserved for the food provided to the detainees. The congresswoman said that when shown the "meal prep area," she saw that employees at the facility were fed "large pieces of roast chicken, large sausages," while detainees ate "small, gray turkey and cheese sandwiches and apple and chips, and that's it."
"We're talking about fully grown men being fed very small portions," she said.

, wrote in a statement: "I've toured these facilities myself – real ones, not the makeshift tents they plan to put up – and even those detention centers contain conditions that are nothing short of human rights abuses. Anyone who supports this is a disgusting excuse for a human being, let alone a public servant."

The attorney who was fired by the Trump administration for revealing to a federal judge that Abrego Garcia was accidentally deported said that what happened to Abrego Garcia can happen to anyone, especially if people don't have proof with them that they're citizens (e.g., a passport card): -

It's really not. It's like most jails. Big tanks with a bunch of guys in it. One or two toilets and no privacy. It's actually very normal but no one cares when Americans are locked up in this awful facilities. Only when it's illegals.

Hundreds of immigrants with no criminal charges in the United States are being held at Alligator Alcatraz, a detention facility state and federal officials have characterized as a place where “vicious” and “deranged psychopaths” are sent before they get deported, records obtained by the Miami Herald/Tampa Bay Times show.
Mixed among the detainees accused and convicted of crimes are more than 250 people who are listed as having only immigration violations but no criminal convictions or pending charges in the United States. The data is based on a list of more than 700 people who are detained at the facility or appear to be scheduled to be sent there.
A third of the detainees have criminal convictions. Their charges range from attempted murder to illegal re-entry to traffic violations. Hundreds of others only have pending charges. The records do not disclose the nature of the alleged offenses, and reporters have not independently examined each individual’s case.
