The banter between Gale, Dewey and Jennifer
The hollywood murder mystery angle
Neve's performance
Cons:
Some of the meta stuff felt a little forced
The killer and the motive.

Pros:
-Parker Posey
-Sidney's writing.
-finding a way to bring Randy back.
Cons:
-the killer and their motive, as you said.
-the absence of Kevin Williamson's witty, self-aware writing. The closest thing to a horror reference is Vertigo.
-the new characters outside of Jennifer, who are all boring or unlikable or both.
-the toned down violence.

Yes easily less references and a pg13 blood, its horribly edited out. Fun but average. Also it became way to goofy and comedic which steals a little credibility.
