Jules : No you were something different
How selfish is she? The fact that he stopped being a bench warmer and actually got a little bit of success, should have made her happy. I get that it was at her brother's expense with Lance's injury. But the fact that she can't be the least bit supportive whatsoever makes her a terrible GF in my opinion. -

Why be jealous of attention gotten in an area that she has nothing to do with? Also, Lance always received more attention than her from her folks. So if anything she should relate to Mox wanting more and being happy at getting noticed for a change.

The only girl that threw herself at Mox was Darcy. But in general her issue was his new superstardom with football. She implies that she only went out with Mox because he was a benchwarmer and not a real football player.
Ironically, it was her lack of support and b**chy attitude that made Mox question things with her. If she had acted like a supportive GF, his attention never would have drifted. -

I think some of you all may have interpreted this incorrectly. She was pleased that her brother was a star, but realized that football was only a game and that high school football in her town was over the top in support. Law-breaking, underage drinking, the way all this was overlooked, the CHURCH in TEXAS, a very right-wing religious-nut state, was more immersed in football than in worship!
She saw all this as the farce it was and the way older townspeopleher parents, obviouslydevoted their entire adult lives to a bunch of high school kids was ridiculous when viewed through a real adult's eyes. Look at Darcy's lack of confidence about getting out of town and living a real life, and she was a straight-A student!
She liked that he PLAYED football but was not caught-up in all the bull surrounding it.
One could say she was mature beyond her years for seeing through this sad state of affairs that adults, who should know better, lived so much in the past for a silly game and never seemed to grow up and deal with life's real problems. This is illustrated by his father's reaction to his admission to Brown, one the hardest schools in the US to be admitted toand on a FULL academic scholarship. Pretty rare in real life and in the movies!

i never thought mox EMBRACED the spotlight. he did what he had to do because he was a responsible young man and felt the pressure and obligation (and obviously guilt his friend got hurt) and obviously saw the abuse of his coach so probably stayed around for his teammates but i surely never got the impression he was REVELING in the attention the way jules treated him.
