Huh. I don't feel as though these are comparable at all. I guess I would choose High Fidelity simply because I can relate to it a bit more at this time in my life. Say Anything is a great movie too but I always felt that while it was a decent portrayal of teenage feelings and teenage love that the characters were portrayed a little bit more maturely than the average teenager is.

John Cusack is what they have in common.

Like comparing Credence Clearwater to Pink Floyd. The only comparison is that the lead is played by Cusack.

I would take Lloyd over Rob, any day ❤

Say Anything is the better movie - though I love High Fidelity. But Say Anything is a stone cold classic, one of the definitive youth movies of the 1980's.

                  High Fidelity
is the better film in my opinion.
                  Say Anything
is a feel good teenage romantic comedy that never gets very deep.
                  High Fidelity
is about how stagnation affects relationships. Rob is a character with arrested development, who grows up, that is to say there is a character arc. Lloyd is a little too idealized, and doesn't really undergo as much of a character transformation. The writing in
                  High Fidelity
is much better, also the comedy of Jack Black is sublime.

                    Say Anything
doesn't get very deep? Wow, I don't agree.
                    I find Crowe's screenplay for
                    Say Anything
to be brilliant. High Fidelity is one of the more overrated films of teh past 20 years, IMO.
