this is surprisingly difficult. had to think back to when I was a kid and actually played CDs. songs I actually know to be track 1's. in no particular order:
Pink Floyd - Speak to me/Breathe (Dark Side) obvious, I know, but it was my first slow dance with a girl. plus the whole brilliant album thing
Alice In Chains - Them Bones (Dirt) favorite song to listen to when I had the top down in my convertable
Our Lady Peace - One Man Army (Hapiness) great for belting out when no one is listening. those high note are hard, but fun
The Clash - London Calling (London Calling) also obvious, but the clash is just great and this album is amazing. no offense to Rob, but its a better song that Janie Jones
Radiohead - Planet Telex (Bends) almost any list would have this album on it. it's one of those rare, perfect albums you don't skip tracks on. like Siamese Dream or Nevermind
Ho! Ha ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!

Wow. You probably think Opeth is too mainstream, but The Leper Affinity and Ghost of Perdition are awesome.

judging by all that crazy stuff I posted I can see why, but I enjoy Orchid quite a bit, I will add In The Mist She Was Standing to my list. I also like the Katatonia album that the Opeth vocalist was on 'Black Murder Day'.

                  Excellent choices!
You'd probably like almost the entire soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" (Yes, that's right!). Many people didn't like New Wave mixed with a period piece, but you can't beat people in satin & wigs dancing in a Baroque palace to "Hong Kong Gardens" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Here are some of the songs:

                  • Aphrodisiac - Bow Wow Wow
                  • What Ever Happened? - The Strokes
                  • Ceremony - New Order
                  • Plainsong - The Cure
                  • Natural's Not In It - Gang of Four
                    Don't get me wrong
                    It might be unbelievable,
But let's not say so long.

The most obvious that hasn't been mentioned is Brown Sugar-The Rolling Stones (Sticky Fingers). It also should be listed as best opening note of an album.

Sorry, if you don't have Boston, More Than A Feeling or The Who, New Song in there, you fail

. The most obvious that hasn't been mentioned is Brown Sugar-The Rolling Stones (Sticky Fingers). It also should be listed as best opening note of an album.
                                      Great call.

                                      Aqualung, Aqualung Tull
ON your radio, I'm the man - Joe Jackson
Hells Bells, back in black - AC/DC
Getting closer, back to the Egg - Wings
(Although reception is technically track one on back to the egg, it's half spoken word and more of a novelty)
"what's this? A doorknob? Good show!" the easily impressed Dr. Bartley
