the guy who played Fred

I don't agree (and I realize this is probably not the popular opinion). The casting, overall, was better for the sequel. In the first one, the actors seemed a little "above it all" and looked kinda bored. This cast seemed to embrace the cheesiness, and looked like they were having fun. It's a cartoon, after all.

I liked them the same. Maybe I'm just not picky enough, but I liked who played the parts for each movie. It's good that there was new people for the prequel. Having them all play younger versions would have been kind of odd, and if they couldn't get them all, it would have too odd for some or one of them to be the same while the rest were different.

Mark Addy was better. He looked and sounded more like Fred. In general, though, I preferred the second movie to the first. The main improvement was Betty. Whoever came up with the brilliant idea of casting Rosie O'Donnell was tragically mistaken.

I don't believe Addy was better, but he did a good job with Fred. Goodman not only had the proportions for Fred, but he captured the personality. I thought both Flintstones movies work well, despite some casting errors. Yes, Rosie was NOT the right Betty. Krakowski was the perfect Betty, and she had legs like a dancer, which is always helpful. LOL
