Yeah MSG is great stuff. But it suffers from very dated animation and silly dialogue (which pretty much every Gundam show until 08th IMO did that I've seen). But it is a great show despite the "silly super-robot-ness of it" and quickly check out Zeta afterwards. Wing is also very good but also suffers like MSG from really silly and sometimes inane dialogue (Relena was a good character but the writers did not know how to put words in her mouth properly half the time) and also has the super-robot/super-pilots that never die syndrom too.
I understand the One Year War kick. I personally think the UC timeline is far more interesting than AC, CE (which sucks) and whatever G Gundam had. UC was just a great basic timeline that provided a backdrop for many rich stories. I just think the side stories (08th, 0080, 0083, Side Story and I think you could argue Zeta being a side story are all more entertaining that MSG, IMO).
But both are good shows. I think Aina really came into her own when she returned from the snowy mountain and didn't take beep from anyone anymore. I suppose, like Gunias there just was not enough time with her on such a short run before it ended, though.

Yeah I feel 08th is a nice tight storyline. That gets from A to B, perfectly well with great explanations. I also give credit to 0080 and Zeta for doing this.
But many Gundam shows, even my favorite, Wing, have some large jumps that you have to fill in for yourself. For example the change in many personalities between the series and Endless Waltz is a bit jarring and silly. 08th explains itself well, every step of the way.

Hm, I've never seen Miller's Report.
I guess there is a jump there but it never bugged me (mind you I hear the episode 8 we get in the States filled with scenes from Miller's Report at the beginning).
I do maybe a few more episodes of the MS Team working together before Elleadore was kidnapped would have been nice and maybe a few more fter Kiki's Village got devestated. But the pacing was extremely tight. Something I notice the short Gundam series (this, 0080, 0083, etc.) have but is completely lacking in the main 50 episodes series from every era.

                  I too think that
                  The 08th MS Team
is the best Gundam Series. It's great the whole way through although Miller's Report is somewhat lacking.

                      Shiro is too corny.
                      0080 is my personal fav.

Easily one of my favorite Gundam series. Great characters, action, and themes throughout.
So many stories, so little time.
