Samuel may be a good actor, but he sucks when he has to play 'the cool MF'

I've always found that when Ving Rhames does cool he is cooler than Samuel Jackson doing cool. I don't know but Ving Rhames just seems more convincing and even more badass than anything I have seen from Samuel Jackson.
Ving Rhames = Cool Dude
Clint Eastwood = The Man -

There's a difference between being a bad MF and being cool! The problem in this movie is that he isn't left much opportunity to be cool. Peoples makes fun of him and so does Wade, so Samuel ends up being spiteful and cynical; not a great basis to be cool.
In Pulp Fiction he was a bad MF and sort of cool. I still reckon Trevolta beat him there in the 'cool department' though! -

Now take my wallet out of the bag. It's the one that says bad ass mother beep
The Path of the Rightous man is beset on all sides by the inequalities of the selfish, and tyrany of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will, shepards the weak through the valley of darkness; for he is the true finder of the lost children and he is his brother's keeper. And i will strike down upon thee with great vengence and furious anger anybody who attempts to betray or poisan my brothers. And you will know my name is the lord when i lay my vengence upon thee.
I dont' know what it means, but i guess i just say it when i kill beep
Now how is that not cool.
How bout..
I've had enough of these mutha beep snakes on this mutha beep plane.
That's pretty damn cool if you ask me. -

The problem with this movie isn't whether Sam Jackson is cool or not, cause, in my opinion, he is. But he's only Jules cool he's playing Jules when he should be playing Shaft. So many lines and deliveries in this movie are straight out of Pulp Fiction, and that's one major place where this film falters.

Jackson is way cool with line delivery, and confidently portrays action heroes a lot (see: "Snakes on a MFin' Plane") but the fact is that John Shaft was originally conceived as a very sexy ladies man of a private eye and played by a very young and handsome actor, Richard Roundtree. Shaft '71 was almost the "black Cary Grant" in his portrayal by Roundtree.
I'm sure Samuel L. has sex appeal to certain fans out there, but his looks are not Roundtree-pretty.
The embarrassment in this film came with Jackson's gracious willingness to let Roundtree PLAY "the original Shaft" (Jackson is "the next generation" a nephew?) even a 60-something Richard Roundtree was more handsome and smooth than Jackson. I understand the producers finally elected to cut down on Roundtree's scenes because they distracted too much from Jackson. -

Actually it is possible for an uncle to be close in age with the nephew. In fact, it's possible for the uncle to be younger than the nephew. Richard Roundtree is only 6 years older than Samuel L. Jackson. However, we don't know if the younger Shaft is the same age as Jackson. The main point is that Jackson was never really supposed to play Shaft the same way as Richard Roundtree.
