That's a strange question. It's just a movie about a black cop, just like Bond movies are about a white british agent. There's really nothing more to it. There's no discrimination involved.
Why don't we just keep going and say why can't Rambo be asian, Indiana Jones be native american, or Dirty Harry be mexican. I think you're overthinking it.

It's not 'just a movie about a black cop'. The original is synonymous with the discourse of the city in cinema, it deals with the issues of black space within the city (aka the 'ghetto') and the identity of/problems faced by African Americans within the city. Not too mention the fact it is one of the first Blaxploitation films.
So no, there could not be a White Shaft.

There could be a white cop with that name. Just like there's several superheroes named Captain Marvel. Of course it would be devoid of the racial narrative. James Bond has no racial narrative. He's just an Englishman. The character Annie has no racial narrative, hence anyone can play her role.

Was is it there was no problem re-making Uncle Buck( which was horrible) with a Black guy but when Shaft was proposed using a White guy then someone has a problem with it? To me it sounds like it's ok to remake a movie replacing the white lead with a black lead but, it's NOT ok if a white lead replaces a Black lead! ThatsF ucking bullS hit
