Since the kid has psychic abilities, maybe his saying he was afraid of the feathers was an indication that he knew that something bad was happening at the house. Sure, he wouldn't be in bed, but his x-ray eyes knew that there would be a gun, therefore he urged his mom to take her purse knowing she would need to defend herself with the blade. Just my take

Maggie could have instantly told Jake to go upstairs when they walked into the house, or he could've ran upstairs to hide under the covers out of fear, or something along those lines. It also could have happened if Ben convinced Maggie to leave Jake at the house, he would've been in bed at that point.
It was based on the possibility of it happening, a "what if" scenario if you will. He could've been half way across the world at the time, either way it still would have held an impact, because what if he wasn't in China for whatever reason and laying in bed at that very moment.
Because sponges never have bad days. -

My take on it is, we saw exactly what we saw. Feathers flying, then a gun falling on the floor. He couldn't know that he wouldn't be in the bed when the feathers flew. But he knew they were the feathers in his pillow.
Do you think they're cognizant of how bad they got it?

He obviously saw something that WAS gonna happen in the future. Just like the main guy did, with that fat guy, in his vision when he said they were gonna kill them, etc. (Damn, why can't I remember their names?)

It's when Maggie goes home from the funeral of her grandmother and she asks Jake to come with her, but he'd rather stay at his uncle's house because he's afraid of the feathers. He is on the stairs right next to his witch aunt. Near the end.
