I just saw this last night and thought it one of the worst films I've ever seen, inane, pointless, crude; maybe it's because I'm middle-aged and this is a kids' movie. I'm catching up on Jake's career and thank God he's now choosing better projects. Is there anything good about this film, am I missing something?

i think you may have missed the entire film. you should try watching it again, but dont focus on the sexual and drug references. i thought it was a really great film but mainly because of the suttle things i caught throughout it
(like for example when they first saw dezmond the alligator boy and his mom told them about aesop she said it weird so they had no clue who she was talking about until cassie said aesops fables and then they freaked. the lady went on to tell the story of how alligator boys dad left and it immediatly clicked with pilot because he had experienced much the same thingthats just one of the many things i caught in the film that i thought was really well done cause i almost DIDNT catch it)
and beyond all the "the choices you make today will affect you tomorrow"s it was a hilarious film.
ofcourse this is just my opinionand if you truly didnt enjoy the film then thats cool. but it seems to me like you didnt see what you were supposed to while watching it because you were paying to close attention to minor details.
i think gyllenhaal chooses the films he works in very wisely i havent found one yet that i can say was a bad movie -

I was actually an extra in this film, shot in Seattle. At the time it was being billed as " A Leonard Cohen Afterworld".
When it actually was released I was sitting with my parents watching it and was absolutely horrified at the open sequence and turned several shades of red.
(We were told (as extras) that the film was in homage to Kurt Cobain.)
I'm happier than words can express that none of the scenes I was in made it to the final cut. -

Aww, that's awesome, but I wouldn't want to have been cut out. Oh, and I know what you mean, I first watched it while my sister was in the room. The Jack and Jilly Went Up The Hilly scene and Scawldy's monologue aren't the type of scenes that I'm comfortable watching with other people.

I'm so glad I became a Gyllenhaalic. I can't get over how amazing this movie is! I wish I knew more than one person that's actually seen it so I could discuss it with them. I brought a vegas visor and make sure I wear it when I blare the theme song on my way out.
Pilot Kelson is the best!
