I agree 100%. Maybe nostalgia has something to do with it, but normally if i have that nostalgic feeling towards something like this, and then i watch it again 10 years later, i realise it was just nostalgia that kept me thinking it was good. Did not work for this one though. Gladiator is forever on my 1st to rewatch list. It's just as good the next 10 times as it was the first.
Because im god, are you god to question my answer?

It's a carbon copy of Braveheart. What the hell are you talking about?

"It's a carbon copy of Braveheart."
It's more of a carbon copy of Spartacus, but still an extremely well made one.
Not the best movie ever for me, but I'd rank it top 20-ish. Other than a few cartoonish shots of the Roman atmosphere, it's a beautifully made film.

I put a few other movies ahead of this one, but definitely in the conversation as one of the best movies ever made. It was so moving. I wish all movies could be this well written, acted, and directed. Also phenomenal soundtrack.

Funny this movie did not have great reviews. Man, did they blow this one. This one is a true and epic classic and its been 15 years and nothing has been close.

Really? Didn't know it got negative reviews. Good thing I don't let critics dictate what I watch. This is definitely the type of movie you can re-watch periodically and it never loses its impact.

Heat, directed/written by Michael Mann, is one of the best movies ever made.

There is no maybe to it. I believe time will prove that Gladiator is one of the all time classics! movies of its genre.

too many plot holes and inaccuracies in it for me, but I want perfection.

It's definitely a favorite of mine that's easily towards the top, but I generally don't have consistent and absolute answers for such things as picking a favorite/best movie myself.

Gladiator is an absolutely wonderful movie. However, I don't think it qualifies for "best movie ever made." It is beautifully shot and tells a wonderful story, but it's just an epic. There isn't any depth to the film itself. It doesn't make you think. It's simply just a beautiful tale of an old world hero. There aren't really any surprises.

Regardless, it's nice and refreshing to see a 'best movie ever' thread, as opposed to the legion of 'worst movie ever' postings on IMDB by sad ridiculous whiney ballbags.
                                      then whoa, differences

There's no 'maybe' about it. We wouldn't have had the 'Spartacus' TV show without it, or possibly 'Game of Thrones', either. Not to mention all the other Swords and Sandals movies of the past 25 years.
As for the soundtrack, very little of Hans Zimmer's work since doesn't refer back to it.
