That scene is apparently a reference to a real-life event that happened to William Shatner at a convention, where he overhead "fans" deriding him and his fellow actors as "has beens".

I'm an St fan but I don't like Shatner. I guess it's no different than being an St fan but hating every St post TOS. Or being an St Fan but hating DS9, VOY, or ENT. And let's not forget, being an ST fan but hating the new ST films.
A lot of ST fans don't like all of ST much less all the actors on ST.
