I'm an St fan but I don't like Shatner. I guess it's no different than being an St fan but hating every St post TOS. Or being an St Fan but hating DS9, VOY, or ENT. And let's not forget, being an ST fan but hating the new ST films.
A lot of ST fans don't like all of ST much less all the actors on ST.
Global Warming, it's a personal decision innit?

That scene always bugs me. It is very poorly written and staged.

Except that it actually happened in real life, so You're wrong.

Pretty damn close, actually. Shatner has talked about it and how it made him reevaluate how he approaches cons and fans of the show.

That's easy to say NOW. Back then, nerds and nerd culture were still shat upon by the mainstream public, and "nerds" were still very much at risk of getting their asses kicked just for liking what they liked. Geek-chic didn't hit until about ten years after this movie was made.
2010's pop culture is worlds away from 1999 pop culture.

That's not entirely true. Leelee Sobieski (I think that how it was spelled?) was ushering in a "geek-chic" style at around this time, or at least trying to. Granted it wasn't comic books and sci-fi, but she tended to promote intellectualism over athleticism/beauty, and that was a step in the right direction. Keep in mind that Lord of the Rings would come out two years after this to resounding success, which is just as nerdy as Star Trek. Nerd culture becoming mainstream didn't happen overnight.

I was waiting for Nesmith to step out of the stall and give them a, "Say that again?" look, silently challenging them to say that garbage to his face. Those bozos came across as the kind of people who would run if something like that happened.

Ask Shatner why nobody stood up for him when this actual thing happened to him?

Why didn't the fans in the bathroom fight back with retorts and retaliation?
You dont really understand the concept of "being a nerd and thus not being a bully" - right ?
