One of the original cast members (Takei?) said you could learn more about Star Trek TOS by watching this show than from any of the documentaries.

I have a high standard for comedy; a LOT of "comedy" films, well most really, don't make me laugh. But I've watched this many times and laughed throughout the movie every time.

In my experience, this movie is really only funny to people with at least a basic understanding of the inner and outer workings of the Star Trek franchise. Know about the fanbase, have seen the show, know some about the actors, etc. Most of the comedy is based on that, or is funny when put in that context. So I think that's really the only thing to "get", they're not Star Trek fans.

You missed half the jokes then. Just one example: The registry number of the GQ ship is
NTE-3120
. "
NTE
" stands for "
Not the Enterprise
". I'm pretty sure the 3120 means something too, but I don't remember right now what.
I'm just a patsy!
Ha! Made you look!!
