isnt it actually amazing that not Europe, but the Detroit underground scene invented techno?? and not some bored white bread suburban middle class kids, it was Afro-Americans, in fact. Black artists. they invented techno as a form of protest and revolt against white dominated club culture. **** yeah isn't that ****ing awesome??!!

There's a strong argument for Detroit being the most important city in all of American music. They also pioneered soul and punk rock. Buuut… Ted Nugent and Kid Rock diminish their standing a tad.
Of course, Memphis and New Orleans are strong contenders as well.
