Really, how BAD could it be?

Too true. Another big blockbuster movie, that should have been a 3-5 part series, was cut down to "3oh5" for the masses leaving out all the details and back story as to why Terl was showed the way he was.
As bad as the original 'Lord of the Rings' in rotoscope that told little of the story and didn't finish.

Oh, it's bad. Truly, stunningly bad. But I have to admit, I spent most of my time laughing while watching it. It was that kind of bad. Soo many things were wrong, or ridiculous, or illogical, especially on the technological and scientific side. And I could see many movies being ripped off along the way, everything from Braveheart to The Shawshank Redemption and many, many more. I enjoyed myself just identifying the many films they stole from. And Travolta's performance is so over-the-top terrible that it's hilarious. I'm looking forward to watching the rifftrax version, but even on it's own BE is crap-tacular good fun!

I read the book and just couldn't buy that a group of people essentially pushed back to the stone age could, by luck, overthrow an alien race that had bested the world's armed forces in 9 minutes. The book seemed far fetched to me, so I didn't have much need to see the movie. Then I heard the reviews - a very bad version of a book I didn't like. I skipped it. Now I'm curious to watch to just to see if it's so bad it's funny, or make a drinking game out of it.

It isn't as bad as you think. It is pretty entertaining as a popcorn sci fi flick. But a movie translated from a 1000 page plus book does not do so well on screen. You basically have cavemen that can fly a fighter jet in less than 2 hours that seems absurd. Would have worked well as a mini series more than a 2 hour film.

Every scene is shot on an angle.
Slow Mo is used way too much! They take 20 seconds of footage and make a 2 minute scene.
"I was learning to conquer galaxies!!". That scene looks like it belongs on a blooper reel.
Racist references.
Learning geometry helps them escape.
Just about every plot device is factually inaccurate. (flying 1000 y/o jets. Clear glass in 1000 y/o buildings.)
I actually enjoy watching it tho. Every time I see it, I notice some new way this movie sucks. It's kinda fun actually. So I find it entertaining.
I give it a 3.5/10. -

Every shot is a dutch angle? lol
I know BE is bad but can't recall anything about the movie, and reading this thread alone (don't ask how I got here) really gave me the urge to re-watch it (replies are THAT funny). Hopefully I won't commit suicide during the process and can comment on how bad it was tomorrow.

Instead of asking such a childish and pointless question, Why don't you watch the Movie, so you can then offer your own INFORMED opinion? Are you really so Idle and Brain-dead as to expect others to watch It for you and then 'report back' to you? You're pathetic.

Obviously not the worst film ever. But probably the worst blockbuster ever. I was absolutely stunned by how bad it was. Like a lot of people, I thought talks of how bad this film was, was just exaggeration due to the Scientology link. But it's truly terrible, it's baffling and complicated in how bad it is. I'm amazed!

I didn't think it was that bad when I first saw it it's certainly not "Baby Geniuses 2: Superbabies" bad (which just about 5-10 mins view while channel surfing was enough confirm it's on the bottom 100).
Oh the story is dumb without a doubt but I didn't read the book, so it didn't seem particularly uncommon just another terribly stupid story. The terribly stupid alien is not uncommon either. Over all it's more forgettable than horrible horrible things are easy to remember. Like "Baby Geniuses 2: Superbabies" just a few mins view & I still remember that as one of the worst thing I ever since. It's so bad that I somehow feel the need to apologies for it's existence on behalf of the human race.
Of course the Scientology thing leave a bad taste but I didn't know anything about it at the time either.
I think it's more a matter of zero expectation, zero disappointment. There are however tiny bits of it that if disconnect from the rest of the movie & not dwell on the annoying, was somewhat interesting. And that's mostly what I remember about it the rest are just forgettable, the only horrible things I remember were the story being stupid that it's not worth investment of any emotion & John Trevolta's stupid alien look.
So my experience was more positive than negative. It's just so forgettable that I wouldn't really think much of it if it wasn't on the bottom 100. -

I asked the same question. The second the company logos end and the movie begins, you can tell instantly it's one of the worst movies of all time. And it only gets worse from there - how can you get any worse than worst? Battlefield Earth found a way.
