who do you think should direct and star?
since it's based on a book a reboot is possible, very unlikely but just for fun, who do you think would be good for it?

Tom Cruise, mr scientology himself. His carreer starts to be a series of bad sci-fi, so why not top it off with a bang

Don't know, but preferably someone who is not involved with Scientology. We need a neutral mind at work here, and not an L. Ron Hubbard butt kisser.
I never read the book, but am curious about what the second half could've been like on film. A reboot would need to be the whole book on film, and not split in half.

Here's a summary of the second half of the book:
After the Psychlos are defeated, the surviving humans are unsure if they have actually destroyed the home planet. Not long after, a new alien species invades Earth because the Psychlos owed them money (you read that right). It soon comes out that the new aliens had all of their money on Psychlo and when the planet went kaboom, they were broke. Through legal bullsh!t, Jonny Goodboy Tyler is able secure the freedom of the human race and they all live happily ever after.

At that point it almost sounds like a joke. Maybe it was for the best this one not get a sequel.

I would have mentioned Ridly Scott but after that huge flop of a Prometheus. shudder

Ridley Scott is one of those directors whose as a good as the script he's given to work with, so it's quality would have to depend on what writers are on board. And
                        Prometheus
, though flawed, wasn't all that bad And with it's success both critically and financially, it wasn't even a small flop let alone a huge one.

So? "Star Wars: Episode 1, The Phantom Menace" was a flop to Star Wars Fans, and still made a ton of Money without the Critical Praise.

That's the sad part. Throw away the real fans and get casual viewers instead. $$ over fan/story/universe loyalty.

The studios don't care about the fans. The only thing they care about is the money the movie makes. If it makes them a profit then they're happy.
The only time that the fans matter is if it's a director who's making this for them specifically and those rarely make much in the way of a profit which means most studios won't go for it unless they're contractually obligated to do so.
Having said all that, a reboot of this monstrosity will never happen. It's simply not a good enough story for a mainstream audience to embrace. L Ron Hubbard was a hack who wrote in the old pulp style where more words meant more money. He sacrificed quality for quantity.

                                    John Travolta again !
I heard that he was blamed for everything wrong with the movie when really it was not his fault at all, it was the producer's. He should re-direct it with 100% artistic freedom.

If they were to reboot it, they need to scrap the previous movie, go back to the novel, do it completely serious, and then sell it as a

kind of thing like "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies", for that is the best you can possibly do with it
Cast it with actors ex-scientology actors, that would be awesome.
