Try watching some movies with subtitles, you might get used to it. Then you will see that you miss alot of a movie watching it dubbed. I don't consider myself a snob, but i just can't watch a movie with voice-over. Maybe it's because i grew up in a country where movies are never dubbed (except movies for kids). And once you are used to reading subtitles you really don't feel like you're reading something, it's a reflex. Plus, it's also a good way to learn another language. I understand and speak 4 languages and i must say, that's mainly due to reading subtitles.

I personally like the subtitles and rather them than a dubbed movie. It's nice to hear the language and the expressions. If you turn the volume up in the movie and listen while reading, some of the words sound similar in English so you can follow it (I know English is a Germanic language but still).
I have a hunch the people that insist in watching a movie in a foreign language are elitist snobs that want every to know that are better that the unwashed masses that prefer watch something they dont have to read
Orthey like to hear the original language the movie was made in. World Languages are interesting and beautiful to hear. People who want to learn new languages watch with subtitles to hear the correct dialogue. it helps.

I'd prefer to watch a movie with sub-titles for the same reasons as given above. Sometimes the dubbing is not done well which I find really annoying. I'll end up focusing on the bad dubbing than on the actual movie.
Different people simply enjoy movies in different ways and there is nothing wrong if you prefer to see it dubbed.
I wouldn't take any notice of DarkNicoya's comments. It has nothing to do with brain capacity. She is just trying to make herself feel more intelligent than what she probably is. -

I don't understand the logic of watching a movie in a language you don't understand. Basically the people that are doing the dubbing are reading the subtitles for you and saving you the trouble of reading so you can focus your attention on the visual aspect of the movie. PPS When I did watch movies with subtitles I didn't like it when the words didn't stay on the screen long enough to read {I am a fast reader} and many times the words were white and the background was white [or sometime black on black] which made it hard to see them
Listen Silverr8c, you are retarded. Didn't your parents let you in on this fact at some time growing up? You are not a fast reader or else you would have no trouble keeping up with subtitles. Normal people who are able to read subtitles while watching a movie are not elitist snobs, it's just you who are retarded and outside of the norm. Your brain is not functioning properly. Perhaps because of inbreeding in your family. Ask your parents. Are they siblings?
Normal people with normal functioning brains have no trouble reading subtitles when watching films. Again, you are retarded. You're also indicating that you have trouble seeing. Either that or you have a very small crappy TV or you're sitting to far away from the screen. People with normal functioning eyes have no trouble reading subtitles.
Either way you are obviously severely retarded and you might need to see a doctor for your eyes. You might be in the need of glasses. You're definitely in need of a new brain. Good luck on the first part, the second part is sadly impossible to rectify at the current moment.

One of the reasons I hate subtitles is that it makes it difficult for people with poor vision. My mother really wanted to see "Last temptation of Christ" She could see what was transpiring on screen but she could not see well enough to read the subtitles. I had to sit there and read the sub-titles to her when it cane out on DVD (that would have been impossible to do in a movie theater). They have sub-titles for hearing impaired but with modern technology there is no reason why they can not have an option to listen in english for people that have impaired vision.
PS Fedorevsky , you made a choice to engage in insults and personal attacks instead of discussing the pros and cons of sub-titles. I will not be able to read your reply because your rude behavior has earned you a place on my ignore list -

The problem is most people are like the OP. That is why foreign movies are not that popular here. No one wants to read the sub titles. I for one rather get the whole movie and what is really being said. So I prefer sub titles but the OP opinion is not so uncommon. I have heard countless of people who just will not look at a movie with sub titles, these are usually the folks who do not like Black and white movies also. So don't be so hard on the OP I am sure there a lot of people you have met who feel the same way.
