NPCs have secret master key?

I always wondered how the NPCs (Wesker, Chris, Barry, etc.) got around the Mansion ahead of us.
I mean, there's always only one way to open the door/gate - usually in the form of a single key hidden away somewhere on the other side of the mansion.
This has lead me to wonder just how in hell the other characters get so quickly to parts of the Mansion that take us several hours of hear-tearing, teeth-grinding, game-loading-for-the-seventh-time frustration to eventually reach.
I always like to think that the NPC's are running JUST ahead of us as we make our way through the Mansion, and have just enough time to strike a pose and pretend they'd been there the whole time just as we come through the door or round the corner
If ignorance is bliss it's astonishing that there aren't more happy people in the world -

You know, I was just thinking about this. The only thing I can reasonably assume is that there are multiple keys, which makes sense in a mansion this size. What I dont get is why everyone always closes and locks the doors behind them.

I too have always wondered how characters have been able to enter certain rooms.
The only character in this game you could understand being able to manoeuvre around the mansion would be Wesker. With his knowledge and expertise about the mansion it's highly likely he was able to find an alternative route to some places or he already has copies of keys with him already. In fact the master Key he holds at the end probably enabled him to get to rooms (although you wonder how he was able to enter places where emblems were required).
As for locking the doors I suppose it was just to prevent the zombies or monsters from escaping.

I was about to say, i always thought as i played that the mansion either locked down or unlocked all doors after the outbreak, and Wesker Barry Rebecca and the other random people they kill off just locked themselves in so monsters and zombies wouldnt follow them and then you got screwed just behind them lol

So you're telling me you're wandering around a mansion with giant tarantulas and snakes, dead dogs and zombies, possible multiple killers and you WOULDN'T lock a door behind you? Hell, I'd nail them shut too if I could just to be safe. Infact, I's lock myself shut in a room and die in there.
It's almost as if they did it to have people on a wild goose chase around the mansion looking for keys.
