As far as I'm concerned Will poked his nose where it didn't belong. He had no right stealing Caleb's stuff. All for his big exposure. At first he seemed like an ok guy. But then he showed he was a theif, and he was trying to be smart by getting away with the goods and a picture of Caleb. If you asked me Will's stupidity and self-righteousness got him dropped on his head.
Notice I don't say the Skulls. The Skulls took things too far. They should have taken Will to a hospital, and taken all the proof from him about them. Of course he had the proof hidden in his dorm, of course the Skulls prooved to be resourceful, they could have gotten people to turn that place upside down and they would have had all the evidence he had been collecting.
Now Will was Luke's best friend, but if you ask me he cost Luke big time. Luke didn't look at it that way. But think about it. If Will didn't look to expose the Skulls, Luke would be financially well off, and the hole he had dug for himself would all of a sudden be solid ground. True the Skulls took it too far with Will, but like I said he poked his nose where it didn't belong and he put Luke in a position to decide between his friend and the Skulls (the killers). You might bring up the angle of Levritt using Will as a means to come to power, well Will gave Levritt the card to play with.
You ask me, Will should have just minded his own business, if the worst happened with Luke (like his scenario with Caleb) I say move on and forget about it. -

Interesting points
Will says that he's "no Bob Woodward" early on in the movie, but it seems like he wants to be one.
As they say, "No guts, no glory."
Bob Woodward wouldn't be so successful if he hadn't taken substantial risks. Just the same, Will did put Luke in a difficult position, but he felt justified in his mind, Luke had "betrayed" him by joining the Skulls in the first place. -

The Skulls were basically a bunch of rich harmless white guys, it was Litten Mandrake that was crazy and the Skulls kept covering for him because he had dirt on the council members. Will didnt care about Luke. Will was doing this story so HE could get a good job after he graduated. He knew that Luke needed this for Law school and didnt care, it had nothing to do with morality. He was a lying thief who was spying on his friend for a story. Mandrake took it too far not because he loved his son but because he wanted to be able to hang a murder over his head to control him like he did everyone else in the Skulls. Thats My humble opinion.

Any group of people with positions of power such as Skull members hold (in the movie and in real life) can be in no way considered harmless. These people can set virtually anything in motion and also can cover up any negative side effects. The decicions they make can and do affect millions upon millions of people around the world. Does that really sound harmless to you?
On a side note, I actually enjoyed this movie. -

It was an accident. All Calec was asking for was his posses and the camera. He had no intention to kill this thief.

Well, if I were a prominent figure of an organization that molds the future leaders of the world secretly within the walls, I wouldn't want an outsider coming in and exposing all of our secrets. I mean, they are called SECRET societies for a reason. It is a priveledge (sp?) not a right. What would you do if someone snuck into your club and was going to spill all your dirty secrets? Like the subject says, I side with Caleb.
Another point, if my best friend got into a group he was waiting on for years, I would be happy for him. Yeah, it would kinda suck that he couldn't tell me about what he was doing but, those are the rules and I certainly wouldn't turn my back on my BEST friend just for not talking about it when he's not supposed to anyway, that's just dirty. And if I did, a punch to the face is in order because I wouldn't be a very good friend to begin with. And I definately would've told my best friend if something bad was going on (if he had anything bad on them) and what-not so he'd at least have a heads up and maybe change his mind. I just don't think Will was a good friend.
Also, and I'll probably get blasted for this but, I thought the movie was great. It was the first DVD I ever bought..along with Entrapment & Stigmata..Do you expect college kids to pick up uzi's and start splattering the Skulls? (wouldn't have been a bad idea for the 2nd one cuz that one blew)? He used his smarts, not his trigger finger to win.
