i dont need to use skillful manners, this film is total crap, not the least bit scary, completely unoriginal and unbelieveable with a bunch of terrible actors (joey lawrence)what else can i say, you loved it i hated it

I didn't say I loved it, I said it was enjoyable. All the UL films are not great films but I don't expect them to be. I go in expecting a bad plot but hopefully one I can sit through without cringing, and watch some cute girls and cool kills.
Depends on the mood really, but that's about it.

Do we really have to get on here and blast everyone and everything in the movie? Why cant we just say 'i liked it' or 'I didnt like it' and give a constructive reason why? I thought this movie was a little tacky and some of the acting was a little overdone but i enjoyed it all the same. Jennifer Morrison definitely wasn't the worst thing in this movie either.

man, 4 those of u that luved it, I suggest u see a real "horror" movie. or at least have some english and acting lessons (not really, thats just 2 prove a point). then u'll see exactly y i rated the 1st one 11 and the 2nd one -5. then again, i dnt think anything's scary, but im happy wif just about anything and i certainly HATED this.

Look here, we KNOW how to recognize excellent, good or bad horror movies.
Psycho is the ultimate masterpiece, in every sense of these two words. Hitchcock NEVER dies. Psycho is the mother of all horror films.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes and Theatre of Blood have the great legend Vincent Price, perfectly stylished, perfect black humor and excellent work by directors Robert Fuest and Anthony Hickox.
The Haunting is actually a true masterwork. It's simply the definitive "haunted house" movie. It doesn't need ghosts and apparations like the remake did. I can't describe why this movie is so awesome. Someone must watch it to understand why it's purely perfect.
Dracula and Nosferatue (1931 and 1922) are two of the best vampire films ever. Bela Lugosi and Max Schreck are legends. These two films are highly stylish and atmospheric. Although they don't frighten people anymore, these two movies certainly show what the term "Classic Horror Film" means.
Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are also masterpieces. It's James Whale, the director of both, that must be considered one of the best filmmakers in history. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has the legendary Fredric March in one of his best roles in his career. This movie features astonishing camera work and atmosphere.
Scream is one of the few original horror movies from the 90s horror generation. It had a clever screenplay and excellent performances. It created a new wave of horror and inspired dozens and hundreds of horror films. One of them is Urban Legends, a highly recommended horror movie, with a pinch of originality and good performances of newcomer actors and actresses, along with a good story and atmosphere.
I almost forgot Halloween. One of the best horror movies I've ever watched. Bravo music, excellent lighting, filled with suspense, clever directing techniques. The Friday the 13th movies were never masterpieces (well, except, in my opinion, the 6th one which tried to be different from the others by adding humor and thus making it a perfect comedy horror movie) but they were good popcorn horror movies.
UL: Final Cut is NOT a masterpiece in ANY way. It's a good film. That's all about it. It's a good popcorn movie. It doesn't need to be bashed by all of you. It's an OK flick. It's one of those movies that aren't good but are not awful either. -

I like how it OBVIOUSLY pays homage to the great Alfred Hitchcock. That late scene in the bell tower w/ the birds flying around, the rotting corpses was so clearly tip of the hat to VERTIGO, THE BIRDS, and PSYCHO. It fuses Hitchcock elements both literally (naming that award after him) and figuratively. The scene where they are watching that girl get killed on screen (thinking it is acting when it really happened) is direct homage to that Hitchcock idea that the audience is just as guilty as the killer on screen. But it still has that modern teen slasher feel to it. Just my opinion.

I'm noticing a recurring theme here in these "OMGAWD WORST MOVIE EVAR" threads, and it's the morons who started them not even understanding the most basic scenes and plot points. -

14 years later and I don't see the hate for this movie. Sure, I watched it when it hit cinemas in 2000 and didn't think to much of it. There was already enough teen-slasher movies to go around and this one didn't bring anything new to the genre.
Now, after re-watching it, I see a movie that had a weak story, but good direction, acting, and editing. The actors provided substantial substance to the material they were presented with. UL:FC wasn't trying to re-invent the genre, but just play in the sandbox and establish a mythology of it's own. The editing made this movie seem more PG-13 than R by hiding each death with a "A-to-Z methodology" - show an act of violence, cut-away with sound of victim in peril, cut-back to dead body. The directing was simple and uninspired; basically directing for a fast theater-release date.
Overall, the hate this movie gets contradicts with movies that have come after. The horror genre has been raped and beaten to death by slasher copy-cats for the past decade. The genre moves in cycles, reinventing itself each time. Dipping down after UL:FC and hitting rock bottom in the mid-200's. Current cinema has seen an upward & positive curve, but what will be the tipping point ? -

Yes it did: The environment of the story was a film school at a university, the students thereof and their competition for a coveted film award. This is the only movie I know of that takes place in this environment. Then there's the scene where the bad actress, Sandra, is murdered on camera by the killer and the film students watching the video think it's just a student film and that Sandra's acting has improved immeasurably. I don't know of any other slasher flick that did this up to this point.
